Computer power won't turn on

Our HP Media Center PC m7640n will not turn on. Last night we did have a storm and our surge protector has what looks like a burn mark on the side of it. Our surge protector has a light that indicated a line fault. However, all of our other equipment plugged into the same surge protector does have power. Our computer was turned off during the storm last night. Help!

First thing to do is try to plug the pc in another wall socket to see if it goes on, If not, the MB could have gotten fried, even though the other plugs seem to work. Hopfully you just need another surge protector as that could have gotten damaged.

Electrical storms can damage components. Are you insured?

When you get the TV fixed/replaced, buy some surge protectors or a UPS (uninteruptable power supply) to protect the rest of your gear.

Check to make sure the power switch on your surge protector hasn't been reset - also check the connection at the back of the computer -

My Acer Aspire M1201 won't turn on.

More than likely your power supply got fried from a power surge during that storm anyway. You'd be surprised at how worthless most surge suppressors are these days.

Your reasoning about the switch mode power supply being damaged is probably right.
Bear in mind that this power supply may not be the only thing that may be damaged in your computer.
You won't know for sure until you borrow a power supply and install it into your computer to see if it will work again.

Computer will not boot up after i disconnect power

If the component with the blinking green light is on your network card, it has nothing to do with your problem, but does demonstrate that *********** board is NOT fried or there would be no voltage available to make the light blink.

Something on your board may be fried, but not the entire board.

Unit needs board level service, so obtain an RMA, if available and submit the unit for bench testing and service.

Power outage, now pc will not power up at all

OK FIRST A POWER SURGE PROTECTOR WILL ONLY PROTECT YOU 7 % OF THE TIME, WHICH YOU JUST REALIZED. SO YOU NEED TO BUY A BATTERY BACKUP ALSO KNOWN AS A UPS.... I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. BRING YOUR PC TO BEST BUY AND THEY WILL TEST YOUR POWER SUPPLY, IF IT TESTS OUT OK THEN YOU BLEW SOMETHING IN YOUR MOTHERBOARD. GET A BATTERY BACKUPS/UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
