upon installing a new operating system (windows xp sp2) my computer cannot play any music or make sound. when i run dxdiag it was'nt able to detect the onboard sound card

the sound drivers will not work if you have XP SP2. If you have SP2, the download the MS UAA high def audio and install it first. Then you can install the sound drivers
Hey ya'll.
I had the same problem with everything installed,icons on the screen etc...I took my stuff to my computer wizard and he came with the following solution which is:
Make sure that you have a Windows XP "SP2 or GREATER" this is the kicker.Go to the requirements sheet if you need more info.
Anyway I did that upgrade from SP1 to SP2 and it works like a charm with pristine sound.
