The door to my Kitchenaid dishwasher lost a spring. It will fall to the 100% open position. When you close it, the spring does not help it back up. Where is the spring? How do I get a diagram to see how to fix this? thanks.

The springs are located at the bottom of unit one on left and one on the right remove bottom cover and they are above the side railing...sometimes there is not enough room to access from the bottom and you actually have to pull unit out a few inches to gain access... as far as parts
www.apdepot.com
www.sears.com and hit the parts direct link on top
both sites will allow you to enter your model number and a parts diagram will come up for you to look at parts diagram and check availability of parts

It may also be the "link" which is a piece of rope with plastic ends. I'd be surprised if that wasn't the problem. It's a lot weaker than the spring.

Falls open when? This unit wom't operate unless the door is secure so I assume you mean the door assist springs are disconnected or broken and the door just falls heavily to the open position after you unlatch it from the closed position. Try these, part 18 here

should attach to frame in an easy to distinguish hole or slot and to door hinges, number 2 here

My KitchenAid Dishwasher door won't stay closed. It keeps popping open after a few seconds.

I experienced the same problem after my tension cables broke. The door fell open with such force that it bent the hinges a little. If you've replaced the tension strings (which you should do every 5-8 years) then you don't have to replace the latch. I did and it didn't solve the problem.
Here's the solution:
Put a towel at the bottom of each side of the door by the hinge.
Push the door closed a couple of times to bend back the hinges.
Remove the towels and you're back in action.
Good luck

Almost at the end of the wash cycle the door falls open, not just unlock but actually fall right open

on most all dishwashers on the very bottom on each side is a pulley like system with two springs one for each side along with a small piece of rope or cord that stretches the spring open and closed as you open and close the door if your door is falling opened most likely you would have to replace these lower pulleys as well as the springs what is the model number of your machine if you have any further questions please message me back and thanks again for using fixya please also note this fix is on most all dishwashers i am currently not able to see your model number so i cannot specify exactly for your machine Thanks again Rick

38 year old kitchenaid KDI-16 imperial dishwasher

yep you can just get springs from lowes or home dept or your local hardware store; they're often in with the hardware (i.e., screws) and not plumbing. remember that the springs need to stretch out a bit, too; so you may end up buying springs that look shorter than they should, but they eventually habituate.

Where can I buy the cable repair kit for my Kitchenaid dishwasher

OK, pretty easy fix. Look at diagram 10 here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5164885

The link (#24) probably broke and the spring (#18) probably shot off and is lying somewhere behind the dishwasher. Just pull out the dishwasher (careful not to disconnect or crimp any of the hoses) and check to see if both springs (one on each side) can be located. Just replace the old links and re-hook the springs and all should be well.

You can order the link replacement (part #8194001) from kitchenaid at 1-800-422-1230.

KitchenAid Dishwasher KUDSO2FRSS

I recently had the same problem. One of the cords that attaches the door to a spring had snapped. I purchased cord replacments at the following URL and completed the repair myself. http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=1059756&PPStack=1

Good Luck, Tim K.

Kitchaide Dishwash Door

There is normally 2 heavy springs & cables that control the "falling" of the door located in the bottom of the machine or it the door itself. Sounds like one (or both) have snapped.
