The Network and Sharing Center in Microsoft* Windows Vista* can be used to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If an Internet connection is not automatically made by the operating system, you may need to contact your access point (AP), broadband wireless router manufacturer, or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Set Up a Secure Wireless Connection to the Internet

These steps assume that your network adapter; AP or router; and cable, DSL or another type of modem have already been physically connected and configured. They allow you to create a new connection and configure it accordingly.

Follow these steps to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If a wireless profile does not exist, you will need to create a secure wireless profile before you can set up a wireless connection to the Internet.

1. Access the Network and Sharing Center.

2. Select Set up a connection or network.

3. Click Connect to the Internet.

4. Click Next.

5. Select Wireless. At this point, if the network(s) that are listed say that the network settings do not match the network requirements, as shown in Figure 1, create a secure wireless profile and then follow the steps again.

6. Select a network and click Connect. If you are not connected to the Internet, you may need to contact your AP/router manufacturer or ISP.

Access the Network and Sharing Center

To access the Network and Sharing Center, use one of the following methods:

  • Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet » Network and Sharing Center
  • Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center
  • Right-click the network system tray icon (the icon that displays two computer monitors) » Network and Sharing Center

They keep saying i am keying in the wrong wireless password. Is this the router password or am i suppose to find another one. please help

My Linksys wireless router uses a different password to setup a wireless connection with the SSID (wireless account name) than the password for logging into the router for administrative purposes.

So I suspect you need a different password. However, without knowing which make/model of router you have, I can't help you identify where to find the information for your wireless setup.

Please add a comment with your router information for additional assistance.

I hope this helps.

My friend has subscribed a wifi on there house and i want to connect my desktop computer to thier wifi hotspot but i dont know what to do. I dont know the settings on how to connect and what to do. So...

You need to ask your friend for permission to connect to his wireless router and Internet and if he agrees he will give you his router's wireless setting so you can connect to his wireless router.
He may ask you to contribute to some of his Internet charges.

I cant find out how to connect the wifi to the computer . Im not even sure that my computer has wifi and i dont know the password

Check your computer manual or see if there is a wifi label sticker on your computer. Likely if it's a newer computer you will have wireless functionality. For your type of issue, there would need to be further digging if you could give the type of computer/make and model etc.

Something is wrong with your wireless router. I think Wii's connection to a router is WEP-Shared,or WEP-Open. Try all of the authentications. Ok,just follow this.
1) Load up Wifi Connections and stuff.
2) Go to your computer and go to this website nintendowifi.com
3) http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/routers/index.jsp Check out which router you have.
4) If you have any of these, your lucky. Just follow this: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/getOnline/index.jsp
5) Also look under your router for the WEP key or whatever...
I hope I helped!

Trying to link my acer laptop to my hp c4580 printer. dont know my SSID number. Help!

I'm assuming you're trying to do this wirelessly?  The SSID is what your wireless router calls itself.  You can find what this is by clicking on the wifi icon near the clock on your computer and seeing which one you're connected to.  I can't give exact instructions, because you didn't say what operating system you're on; but just click on the wifi and it'll tell you in one of the options.

Just bought this of ebay and cant connect to

Hello

The first thing that I would advise you to do is,

Uninstall the WiFi Adapter totally from the System first,

Then go to "scan for hardware changes",

This will bring up a prompt to install the new hardware found (Which is your Wifi Adapter).

After this, Press your Wifi button on the system and ensure that it is On, then Scan for wireless networks.

It should connect like that.

(In case you dont know how to uninstall the Adapter, Right-Click on my computer Icon, Properties, Device Manager, then select the Adapter under network adapters, and right click on it, then select uninstall.)

Hope this helps.
