OS X 10.5.2 and above have built-in ZPL and EPL drivers. Plug the printer in to USB, go to System Preferences > Print & Fax, click + , and choose the Zebra driver. For the LP2844 you choose the EPL2 driver.

Thats a great answer above as long as you don't want to print courier labels from a web browser or anything with a barcode in it.
There is however a commercial solution available unfortunately you have to pay for it but it works every time from all apps including web browsers and there are instructions on how to set it up for courier label printing.

go to www.zebra.com and dowload the correct driver http://www.zebra.com/id/zebra/na/en/index/drivers_downloads/drivers/results.html?productType=7
then go to the driver and print the testpage.
Check if the port is correct, if still not comunicate, reset the computer and unplug the cabel from the printer and try again.
go t start-printers and fax, if you see the printer, just rigth-click and go to properties, print a testpage.
If you are using Bartender, Make sure to use the Seagull Scientific Zebra Driver. The zebra driver works (but not properly) with bartender. Download the driver from Seagull Scientific site. You can also email bartender tech support, their contact details are available from the help screen on the main bartender design screen. I have always found them to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
The firmware download utility program comes on the CD supplied with the printer. Use this to download the firmware file to the printer. Check on the zebra website for the latest firmware file. (You should be able to download the Download utility program from the website also. (Steady red may indicate that the printer is set to the incorrect operating mode. Check that you have the correct setting in your printer driver - Thermal Transfer if you use a ribbon, Direct Thermal if not) Easiest way to check is to insert a ribbon and see if printer works)
de-install then re-install the printer driver.
also if it has multiple interfaces (such as serial and parallel) be sure to load the appropriate driver.
The printer only understands EPL code. (Eltron Programming Language) If you are trying to print text from DOS it wont understand (interpret) the txt codes.
To verify that the printer is working.
Open a DOS box, start the dos editor. Type Edit. Dos editor will open.
Type a single capital letter U. and print. Send to printer. The printer will print a configuration label.
EPL code to reset printer is
^default.
If you want to print a text file. use the Zebra Universal Driver. Zebra TLP2844. Open any windows application. E,G, Notepad. type text and send it to printer. Print as normal.
