I would put a 20 amp fuse in. The wiring for the cigarette lighter is usually around 15 - 20 Amps. The wiring also is not rated for more than 20A. I hope this helps. JOe

I want to know if my Duracell 130 Watt AC/DC Power Adapter can be used to plug in a coffee maker into my cigarette lighter? I also misplaced the User Manual to this product. Can it be replaced. I believe...

It's not a good idea to run anything that needs a lot of wattage through a power converter using a 12v cigarette lighter plug. Coffee makers work by using a resistant heater element and it might work, but you could damage the coffee maker or the adapter by doing so.

What is the amp size of the external fuse of a whistler 400 watt power inverter

The lighter socket power cord has a 15 amp fuse. The cable with the battery clamps do not have fuse protection.

This is a Wagan 2003-6 400Watt with USB DC to AC Inverter. Worked great for almost a year. Recently fan was varying in speed under load. Then finally blew my vehicle cigarette lighter receptacle fuse. ...

A few thoughts on this. With the transistors, if these are a darlington style of transistor, it might show a short on a good transistor. The USB "transistor" is a voltage regulator, 12v to 5volts dc. With the inverter input, some inverters use a diode in the input to protect against connecting the inverter by reversed leads. This diode might be shorted and be causing your problem. If it comes to changing the transistors, it might be cheaper in the long run to buy a new inverter. The transistors might be problematic and might not be the only thing problematic. Experience here talking!

Son plugged ac/dc adapter into accessory plug and it sparked and afterwards cigarette lighter and accessory plug does not work anymore. Thinking maybe fuse but don't have manual to know where fuses are....

I always use a test light and check them all. Usly faster then looking up which fuse it is. Here is a diagram of fuse block anyhow. CIG stands for cigarette lighter.08b0868.png

I just bought a power inverter for use with my pc.

There are two possibilites: the first is the over 400W power draw, the other is how you have the inverter connected. Do you have the inverter connected directly to the battery terminals (the clips) not the outlet plug (cigaretter lighter)? This is needed for any load over 80W and under 400W. (the inverter can handle a load demand over the 400W limit but only for short periods (800W).)

What is the load that your PC pulls (Is it a laptop or a desktop)? The laptop in my home has either a 65W or a 90W load (depending on the battery and the AC adapter we are using). Desktops take much more power (usually).

I hope this helps.

Overloaded my inverter -now only works when hooked to car battery

It sounds like the fuse that protects you cigarette lighter is blown.

After you have replaced the fuse, check the voltage again. 0.015vdc would not have powered anything that in manufactured to operate on 12vdc.

When powering anything over about 250W, I would suggest connecting directly to the battery to avoid overloading the lighter circuit.

Need a car lead to charge my camera in the car it is a l830/l730

The inexpensive fix is to purchase a DC to AC inverter that plugs into your cigarette lighter. A 75 watt inverter cost around $20. Plug your camea charger into the inverter and you are up and running in seconds.

I hope this helps!
