I was given an acer aspire one notebook but windows 7 appears to be in german how can i change this to english

You need to install language packs form Windows Update.


If already installed? To change in Windows, go to Start > Search and type Change display language. Choose from list.

For Windows XP : Hit start button, select "settings", then "control panel" and select "Regional and Language options". Then Change it from English(Canada) to English(United States).

For Vista and 7 : Open Regional and Language Options by clicking the Start button, clicking "Control Panel", clicking "Clock, Language, and Region", and then clicking "Regional and Language Options". Then Change it from English(Canada) to English(United States).

Windows 7 Starter, by default, does not allow you to change themes or desktop background.
You can change it by using a program called "Personalization Panel".

There should be an option in control panel to change the language. In Windows 7, in control panel, this is under
clock, language and region.

presume your using windows, go to control panel, region and language. (looks like a globe with a clock in win 7) and change it there

If it is windows xp right click on the blank space on the desktop and go to properties and you will be able to change the background from the properties window

if it is windows vista then right click on the blank area on the desktop and go to personalise and click on change desktop background

if it is windows 7 go to control panel and under appearance you have an option to change desktop background

This might be a problem.. Windows controls the actual display language (thats the dialog boxes, the windows and all the screen messages you see).

If you have a german copy of windows it might be just german. That means you might NOT be able to change the display language to english.

IF you have what's called windows MUI you might be able to change the display language.

Ask the guy or company you bought it from if they have windows CD's. You're likely going to need them. See if by any remote chance you DO have Windows XP MUI (stands for multi user interface)

It's unlikely you do, but at least ask.


There are options to change the language but it's usually not for the display it's for spelling or how dates and the like appear.
