I recently bought the Chauvet ColorPalette and the Chauvet Obey 4. I've been having a lot of issues getting the two to work together. I can't figure out if they're just incompatible, or if I haven't set it up correctly. I've set the ColorPalette to d 001 mode, which is supposed to be the DMX input mode, and hooked the obey 4 output into it.
Please help!

They are not worth trying to fix, if you really like this unit you can get a secondhand one for about 25GBP or find one from a decent manufacturer or even better how about a USB interface to DMX for your PC?
Read about terminating the chain with a resistor 120 ohms. If your run has appreciable length, a termination MAY be necessary to avoid digital reflections that can corrupt the message between the control and the lights. Having separate power sources CAN subject the units to "ground bounce" that can also corrupt the digital control. You need to power all the units from a single source or conditioner if possible. Another solution might be to use one of the DMX radio links which would isolate the ground problem. Another fix you MIGHT try is to get some of the clamsheel ferrite devices that clamp around the wires. Put these around the digital cables, not the power cords:
I am assuming that you are imbedding the changes in the midi sound files themselves. They will need to be on a separate track with the correct midi channel assigned at the beginning of the track.
I bought one of these new for our church and one of the colors would not work. I opened it up and found the control board. There was a line of diodes that were on the board. I found one of them bad. It had split into. It was a signal diode. I think you might be able to get these at radio shack. Use a small soldering iron and electronic solder( there is a difference.) Take the old one out and put the new one in and make sure you get them in the right way.(because it won't work or it will burn up) Hope this is helpful.
