I have a kenmore upright frost free freezer mod #253.26432100. A couple of months ago everything defrosted and the unit was not running at all. I unplugged it cleaned it and plugged it back in, it turned on and seemed ok. We have been using it since. Last night it did the same thing, everything defrosted and the unit was not running. We cleaned it out, and when I plugged it back in the compressor came on and the unit is running fine. We did not have any loss of power at either scenario. Why is my unit shutting down? Is there some type of overload that only resets when unplugging unit?

You have a problem with the ADC.

Frigidaire has also jumped into the market with an adaptive defrost board. The fresh food section light switch and light bulb must work. To initiate a defrost cycle, open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds. The compressor and fans should shut off and the defrost heater should come on. Open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds to remove the refrigerator from the defrost mode and back into a cooling mode.

This product comes equipped with an Adaptive Defrost Control (ADC). To activate manual defrost, press and hold the Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. A "d" in the freezer temperature window and "F" in the refrigerator temperature window will display when the heater is activated. To deactivate manual defrost, press and hold Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. "d" and "F" will be displayed until the defrost cycle is complete. (approx. 8 minutes)

Upright freezer shuts off and leaks when there is any kind of ice buildup. has done this twice in 7 months. is this normal or is it on its way out?

I suggest checking the defrost circuit. Make sure the drain in the back of the freezer is clear first. Then check the defrost timer, switch, and heating element using a volt meter. You can download a schematic from the Sears/Kenmore website.

Upright freezer starting to defrost

remove the back panel of the freezer and see if the evaporator is a block of ice (evaporator is something kind of like a radiator) if is a block of ice replace the defrost thermostat ( a little sensor whit tow wires)
and the defrost timer ( usually next to the refrigerator thermostat inside the fridge side)

you can find this parts at your local appliance part store or online here is a link good luck

Admiral upright freezer dripping water inside on top

Hello.
I can help. Once we notice anything different from before we start becoming more aware of small variations. Regarding things on the top shelf warmer than on the bottom, this is always true because, "warm air rises and cold air falls". If you want the top shelf colder turn the thermostat to the next colder setting, always a good idea in the Summer season anyway.

Even though your gasket looks good, a ten year old gasket is not as pliable as a new one resulting in the moisture problem you describe. I would begin by applying a thin coating of vaseline to the gasket once a week for a month. This little trick of the trade will often work. If it doesn't improve the situation do replace the gasket.

Won't freeze

Is the compressor running the whole time? If so may have a problem with a refridgerant leak....check the compressor in the rear of unit, feel if its hot....may be as simple as a relay.

Freezer has frost in back- frig not coolling

You have a defrost parts issue.
Unplug the fridge. Remove the back freezer panel and check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat.
Without a model number I can not tell you where the defrost timer is.

Kenmore upright older freezer coils frost up

the tech was telling you to put it in defrost and if ater the time you didn't hear the click the defrost timer is defective but like you are describing the defrost thermostat (bimetal) could be bad. here's a simple test (if your handy with a screwdriver) just dissasemble the panel and you will see the coil and defrost heater. if your handy with a voltmeter (please disconnect power first!) locate the two wires to the defrost element put the meter in "audible" mode and check for continuity on the defrost heater if you hear a beep it's good if it dosen't beep it's bad just replace heater w/ bimetal and your ready 2 go! email me @ hvac.tech7872pr@gmail if you have any questions

Kenmore Freezer Model 23041

I have an upright freezer which temp was unstable. The coils were frosted up, and the circulating fan was unable to pull air across the cooling fins.I defrosted the unit, cleaned it up, and turned it back on. Worked fine until it frosted up again. The unit was a no frost model. I had to have it serviced, and one of the defrost sensors was bad. No problems since this was fixed.
