Sanyo DP42746 42 in. plasma TV

For weeks the lower half of the screen has gone black. I could recover it by turning the Tv off then back on, sometimes requiring several attempts. At times it would correct itself. then while attempting to retrieve the lower half of the picture the entire picture went but I had sound. I shut off, then unplugged the TV for a time, turned it back on, still no picture and now no sound. when I unplug it and plug it back in and turn it on I hear the click but nothing else from then on there is no click for on or off unless I unplug it again. I've only had this TV for a little over a year. They're too expensive to be of such poor quality!

I am having the same issues. I bought this TV about 18 months ago and about a month ago, the TV started cutting the picture in half...either the top half shows a picture, the bottom half, or a single line through the middle or no picture at all. Our soution: Good old fashioned hitting it on the back of the set! Nice. We paid $1200.00 for a TV that has to be hit on the back to get it to work. The warranty has expired. I called Sanyo Customer Service and the guy I talked too said he has never heard of this happening before. I don't quite believe him. I will NEVER buy anything that is made by Sanyo for the rest of my life.

Sanyo model #DP42746,apx. 1 1/2 yrs. old, pic. started randomly going black(half way),sometimes would correct itself, most of the time i would power off, wait apx. 30 seconds & then power back on,everything ok!Then one day i powered off & now the green power light comes on,but no picture!I can here the relay kick in & quickly kicks back out,but the green power light stays on,no pic. or sound! And like some other postings that i read no one repairs SANYO TV's,WHY?They are so popular, especially at wal-mart!I have tried for days to call SANYO customer service at 1-800-877-5032 but all i get is a busy signal!Does this # really exist?Or is there just one person that works in customer serv. for SANYO?I have also repeatidly e-mailed SANYO & my only reply is contact cust. serv. at their 1-800 #,go figure!I will never buy another SANYO product after doing some research on the internet concerning SANYO,especially this DP42746 model!Where can i get parts for this model? Please feel free to contact me! [email protected],THANKS!!!

Well I have the same problem with green light and no sound and no pix. After i opened it all up i checked the main power supply board and found all fuses good and the 12vdc side of the board dead. My best guess is this power board has many problems. All the driver boards for the screen are located on the perimiter of the screen. If you loose part of the power supply board you will loose part of functions of the tv. At this time i am looking to replace the entire power board. Will let you know the location and fix soon as i find it. jim [email protected]

SOURCE: Sanyo Plasma Service Manual

The only source would be Sanyo. They can refer you to their parts sales rep for your area.

Just to make a suggestion, there is not much you can service in these sets. Some of these service manuals can cost upwards of $60 to $150 depending on the manufacture and model.

Servicing at the component level without the training, extensive diagnostics systems, jigs, and tools is mostly impossible unless it is a simple obvious fault. These sets are extremely complex in their assembly and design.

At the service centers they service these sets by board and module swapping. These sets are basically serviced like as if it was a PC computer. They have the basic calibration setups to calibrate replacement boards when necessary. Sometimes the new boards have to be matched.

I also found that if the set is more than about four to five years old it is sometimes impossible to have replacement boards. The technology turn-over is very fast with these flat panel TV sets and monitors.

I have the top half of a screen the Bottom half is black, how do I fix this?

If the problem is same with different input devices and you have ensured the are no loose contacts in power outlet, RC jack, cable and sockets, the TV needs servicing.

PANASONIC TH-42PX60U 42 - half of screen not working

I had the same issue. I am going to replace my scan buffer boards. The upper half of mine works but the lower half is black so I would replace the lower Scan buffer board but in case of future issues I have ordered both upper and lower for $44.
The scan buffer boards are fairly simple to locate. Open up back of tv there are two biffer boards identical. The item or product code on them contain letters either SU or SD (Scan up and Scan down)Look up tv parts and item code you will find a place to order or just get the 1 800 number from tv manufacturer.

When you turn the TV on the screen splits in two,

it sounds like one of your buffer boards are going bad. these are the boards that help put the picture on the screen. there are 2 boards an upper and a lower board. if you remove one and turn the tv on you will get half a screen. see then if you get the lines. please leave rating after you check.

Screen lower half goes black/blank

The lower "Y Buffer" board is defective. Best repaired by a technician, or contact Phillips support for the part if you think you are able to replace a small circuit board on your own.
