I have the same problem. My TV went black in 5 months after the warranty expired. I dont think Samsung cares. Does anyone know if there is a class action suit?

  • gchristian Aug 22, 2008

my set went out after 14 months & the Best Buy service tech came out;diagnosed it and said that the t-con board was out but that the only way to repair it would e to replace the entire lcd panel. He said you could not just get the t-con board by itself from Samsung. By the way, I have a 40" Samsung LCD

About eight inches wide, five or six inches high. It is behind a a foil aluminum cover at top dead center in back. Some Framing (obvious) has to be loosed a lot to get it changed out. It is an easy but delicate changeout.
I got mine from a Califoria Samsung warehouse when the service person said they were backordered nationwide. I think the vender was Samsungparts.com.
Two months after I fixed it, the serviceman called and said the part was in. ha.

I have a Sony KDL-43W755C LED TV with a T-CON board problem. Opening the back I can see the BMX board but not the T-CON. Can anybody indicate its location? It doesn't seem to be top dead-centre.

The T-con on this model should be located in the bottom center of the TV. When the back is off you should see it bottom middle under a metal shield.

My Samsung LN52A550 has vertical lines in the middle and right side of the screen is black

This most likely a problem with the T-CON board.

If this set is under warranty you should return it to get it repaired/replaced by the seller.
IF YOU KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH ELECTRONICS REPAIR(board replacement ) or have a friend with knowledge/skill you can fix it.

Sometimes due to heating/cooling or contamination the connection pins on the T-CON board and cables do not make good contacts. The T-CON board is located in the center of the set.

After taking off the back cover and shield over the T-CON board carefully remove the flat cables connected to the T-CON board. I believe there are 4. The connectors have a lip on them to hold the cables so be careful.
Now reconnect the cables. Recheck the display now. If it has not corrected you can disconnect and reconnect again.
The very first solution I entered on fixya.com had essentially this same problem and solution.

If this does not solve the problem you can replace the T-CON board.

The T-CON board look something like;

Tv swiches on ok,picture is o.k but then loses about a third of picture this happens intermitetly on right hand side of screen

This is probably the a problem with the T-CON board (LVDS) or connecting cables.
If the connecting cables are not making good contact with the connectors on the T-CON board it can cause the same problem.

IF YOU KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH ELECTRONICS REPAIR(board replacing ) or have a friend with knowledge/skill you can fix it.

Disconnect and reconnect the cable(s) to the T-CON board to make a better connection.
Be careful removing the cable(s) since the connectors have a lip to hold the cable on.

The T-CON board is usually located in the center on the set behind a metal shield.

If this does not work you can replace the T-CON board.
Since you did not give a make and model I can not give more details.

THERE IS SOUND AND NO PICTURES

Hello,

If You are having sound but no picture in Your television, then it means there is a problem, the problem mainly is caused by a bad t-con board of the television. As soon as you take the back off the set, the t-con board is located at the top middle of the set under some shielding. To replace the t-con board of the television, please get a screwdriver, a glove, a cup and a replacement t-con board.
  1. Turn off the television,
  2. Unplug it from the power outlet and leave it to rest for about 6 hours so the high voltage will dissipate,
  3. I know You will be wondering what the cup is meant for, it is for You to keep all the loosened screws so it will not get missing,
  4. Then You put on the hand gloves,
  5. Then You Turn to the back of the television, take out all the screws around the back of the television to be able to access the main panel,
  6. As soon as you take the back off the set, the t-con board is located at the top middle of the set under some shielding.
  7. Take off the shielding remove the t-con board,
  8. Then You Replace it with the new one You got for it, I will advice You take out the old t-con board so You will be able to get the exact type of t-con board that best fits in with Your television,
  9. Then reverse the process to reassemble the television.
  10. Plug it back on and power it on.
Hope this helped. thank You for using FixYa!!!
