My Sony Bravia KDL-46S4100 is having some issues. Every time I turn it on, the screen is either terrible on the right side (ghosting and off color) or just completely black. I will turn it on and off, eventually after 20 minutes or so the picture will come back on and it will look fine. But not until I turn it on and off many times. Has anyone else had this kind of issue? Really don't want to spend $1,000-1,500 on a new TV. Any help is much appreciated!

Sounds like The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device; in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

You might want to watch this video. The issue might be the same board as your problem.

SOURCE: I have a Flat screen

Are the lines all the way across the screen? or just a few? Solid black - or trannslucent?

Horizontal drive has either data, voltage, or control problem from the pixel registry circuit......get it serviced before the problem spreads causing further damage.

However, in all likelyhood, the panel itself is bad. The Bravia line has had a bad rap about the faulty displays, and at $1800 replacement (plus labor) - it may be time to call SONY direct to complain!

Thanks!!

it sounds like your back light might be going out. You might be able to fix this by installing a new backlight inverter board.

SOURCE: Sony Bravia KDL-46S4100, No Picture

I have a sony bravia kdl 40v 5100 for less than two years and i did not purchased an extended warranty and now my tv is down.
I have no picture, no sound just a black screen when i turn the power on, the power (green) light is lite up and the tv turns off by itself for like less than 30 seconds. I have tried to press as many buttons on the remote control and on the side of the TV to get any message but nothing seem to happen. Any suggestions and solutions? Thanks

How to do default settings on sony bravia kdl-46s4100

If there is an answer to this question, you will most likely be able to find it on AVSFORUM dot COM - once there go to the LCD Flat Panel Displays section and then search or scroll through the list of models. The Bravia kdl-46s4100 is approx 6 yrs old, so what you're looking for is going to be somewhat buried and by this time the discussion thread may even be closed, but whatever information is there should be extensive, as this was a popular model when new. Note also that the "46" in the model number refers only to the screen size (46") so information for any KDL-xxS4100 (where xx = the screen size) should be relevant to yours. Hope this helps.

46 in Sony tv. about 4 yrs old. when you first turn it on it had ghost figures on theleft side of the screen.

If you are handy you can replace both the right and left side planer boards but it is a semi complicated job. The boards bought off market will only cost around 125 for the pair or less.
