HP Pavillion dv9000 - won't power up

6 mo. old, set to download my husband's ipod updates came back 2 hrs later (running on ac) Screen black. Will not power up. Blue light around inserted AC is on.

Tried removing battery and AC.

External Hard Drive is under Christmas tree. 112 GB of downloaded itunes - I have got to find a fix.
Thank you
Denise Same problem... When I press they all blue lights turn on and off, and some times again on and then off. But no noise and no image on the screen. I try a lot of combination and the remote control but nothing works.
I use my notebook in Brazil and not sure what is the HP policy on these cases, but clearly sound like a bug issue on the mother board or something like this.
Regards.

Exactly the same problem! 18 month old HP Pavilion dv6000. Blue lights are on but nothing on the screen. It self-reboots for a few times, and then stays on and appears dead.

HP laptops look very unreliable. This has to be a known issue and HP should post possible ways to fix it!

my HP dv9000 is about 14 months old. Everytime I push the power button, all the blue light came on about 1 second and than it shut itself off. The screen did not come on at all. I took it to BestBuy. They will take a look at it however no guarantee they can fix it. It would cost me $70.

There was a major problem with my old HP Pavilion, so major in fact that HP replaced it entirely.

IF you can get your laptop started, then try updating the firmware by going to hp.com and navigating to your particular model. The update you're looking for is BIOS Firmware.

If your laptop is still under manufacturers warranty, then yes, this IS a known problem, and they will send UPS to your door with prepaid packaging to return it to them. They are starting to catch up with the backlog but it seemed to be a frequent fault in the earlier versions. Happily they seem to have fixed it in later notebooks.

If you need the software or data from it, you will have to take it to a store who can remove the hard drive and copy the data off it. Where I live, in Canada, Future shop did that but it cost me $70. Unfortunately there is no guarantee if you bundle your notebook off to HP that they won't simply replace it, so weigh up whether the data on it is worth paying a fee to back up before you send it off.

Had the same problem with my dv6000. Bestbuy told me the motherboard was fried. Called HP and they said this was a common problem with this laptop caused by a defective part. They are sending me a box and repairing for free.

HP pavillion dv9000 screen went dead -- black

Due to the overheating issues with the dv9000's it's more than likely the motherboard has gone bye bye. You can try plugging your laptop to a regular desktop monitor to see if it's the screen; but you would have heard it chime on if that was the case. Unless you had your volume muted before the incident. Try checking the RAM (one by one), then remove the hard drive and see if you see any graphics. If none of those work, prepare for a dv9000 funeral or punt!

I had the exact same problem so I called HP support. The instructions were- remove power cord from lap top if power cord is connected, then remove battery, connect power cord to lap top then turn on lap top by holding power button down for 30 seconds. It booted up, no problem. The proceedure is to remove static electricity.
