I have a Sony XBR Wega Rear Projection (60-XBR-800), last night the screen changed. In a circular pattern, center of the screen went yellow and blue dots/smudges started to crop out everywhere else. I posted a video clip of this problem on youtube (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4knZSvqFLLI) ... can someone please help diagnose this issue. How much would this cost to repair?

thats a common symptom for that model which is usually related to the optical block. Very exspensive repair. Check with a sony authorized repair center as Sony has recognized the problem and offer assistance with certain models yours may be one of the ones affected.

Your screen is bad or you have an alignment issue. Do you have a convergence feature in the menu or on the tv? Try it. If not, you need a repair. Contact the manufacturer for and authorized servicer.

If this is a KDSR50XBR1 or a KDSR60XBR1,
It is a bad Optical Block and you need to call Sony at 1-800-222-SONY asap to get a exstended warrenty repair. If it is not, and it is out of warrenty I would still call to see what they will do. In either case, it is a Optical Block causing the problem.

Blue haze from lower left slowly starting to consume the screen

The blue LCD panel in the light engine is going bad. The only fix is to replace the light engine. This is an extremely expensive repair. However, Sony has extended the warranty on the light engine only on many of these models. Find a local Sony authorized service center and give them your model and serial number to see if yours qualifies for the warranty.

Blue haze and dull yellow patches on screen

The light engine in your set has gone belly up. It is a very expensive repair. Good news is that on a whole bunch of models like yours Sony has extended the waranty on the light engine. Check with a local authorized Sony service center and give them the model & serial number and you might get a free ride. If I were a betting man I'd take odds on 'you're in luck'. LOL

The Optical Block Assy would have to be replaced, same part that causes Blue Dots, not considered to be user replaceable.

Its possibly the optical block. Sonny has issued a repair steatement where they are susposed to be willing to repair the issue free of charge for your model. Heres the link you should check on it as the repair is around 1000.00

the color drive is going bad check with the sony service center it might be cover and repaired free. my set went blue and the service tech is checking if it is covered. good luck.
