Microwaves are fairly cheap. Probably cheaper than getting yours repaired.

Call a local appliance repair place (not sears).

The reason it "POOFS" is because the igniter is slightly weak and some gas enters before it gets lit,this will continue and get worse. To resolve it the igniter would need to be replaced and then as soon as the gas enters it would light it right away without collecting before it lit.

Unplug the MW.
Uninstall from wall mount (if installed that way.).
Remove outer cover by removing the screws at back and (possibly) bottom sides.

Locate fuse. Replace only with an equivalent type and amperage.

You can test the MW without reinstalling or putting the outer covering back on.

Its high voltage side is worn out. It can be repaired buts its probably cheaper to just buy a new microwave oven.

sounds like the safety valve gas regulator (its where the main gas line attaches in the bottom back)

HI thanks for your question. the poof you hear is the gas sorta igniting because of a failing bake igniter. i would replace it thanks if you need help don't hesitate. thanks.

I think your problem either lies in the thermostat or the gas valve. If you have one (Meter) take a reading at the coil side of the gas valve while starting and see if the signal drops out. If it does your thermostat is faulty. If it does'nt the coil on your gas valve is weak and dropping out as it heats up I have seen this quite frequently. You will have to read the schematic on your panel to see if it is registered in voltage dc or M/V.
