Hi, The usual issue with this type of error is the software that is being used by the HD is corrupted or missing. Try reinstall it again. Cheers!!

Device cannot work

Try cleaning your computer for spyware and viruses. Also try cleaning your registry out using a utility. Do your USB ports on the computer work with any other devices? Try using different USB ports and make sure theres no faults in you device list with the USB drivers. Let me know more info. What OS are you using. By unplugging it without safely removing is most dangerous to Flash memory but it's definitely possible to damage a hard drive by doing so. You might have corrupted your drive. Hope this helps.

I have a 60 GB simpletech external hard drive. I

Try to hook it up to another computer and see if it works there. This will tell you if the device is failing. If you have found that it failed please see about replacing the power adapter. If still no live the device has failed and needs replacement.

Simpletech hard drive not working

I have that problem similiar to yours. My simple tech stopped working for like two years so i decided to open up my simple tech and removed my HD away from the old enclosure so I can try building my own external hard drive for the first time. I bought another new 3.5 enclosure, IDE/ATA for the old HD. I put it in the new enclosure and it worked!

It's the only solution you can have. No need to retrieve data or re-format your HD. You can leave it the way you like...if you wanna reformat it...up to you.

Simple Tech external hard drive

if you are running windows, then check the following:

go to control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management.

you probably have a drive (located on the bottom right) that is listed with no drive letter, just assign it a drive letter and see if it comes back, if not, the drive is probably not initializing and you might have to either format it or replace it.

One thing to remember is the some of the Simple drives requires the USB mini to conect to the drive and the TWO USB connects to be plugin to the computer.
