Yamaha R-V905 constantly turns itself off

Recently my R-V905 has started turning off every few minutes. I'll turn it to Standby then turn it back on and it will stay on for a few more minutes, then off again. Sometimes it seems to happen when there is a loud volume spike.

I don't think it's ventilation, since its been in the same case for 9 years.
I've experimented and it definitely is volume-related. It now turns off when the volume goes over a quarter-way on the dial. Any

Any ideas what could cause a volume outage?

Two things I think are happening. It is overheating and it has suffered some sort of damage to a component inside. Try to make sure there is ventilation on all sides. Can you remember a time where you did not have adequate ventilation for this device? If so maybe that is what caused the part inside to fail.

Hope this helps

Im guessing that it must be either a voltage regulator or maybe a capacitor? Im not sure.

Sorry I could not help further.

What cable do you need to connect reciever to hdtv?

R-V905 doesn't appear to be HD compatible. It would need to have HDMI or component connections but the amp only has composite. You can only connect using the yellow video cable.

Will not turn on.

It has an internal problem. Just received an RX-V2600 back from service for the same issue. It took a voltage drop then a spike. It takes out 5 caps and a few other parts. The repair will run roughly 250-275 depending on who does the service. Hope this helps

Press MENU button, press #5 (Setting/Configuration), press #3 (Power Saver) Select OFF to de-activate this feature (no Power Saver).

This is covered on page 11 of the DTA800 user manual.
