The 1600-DB requires a special Walking or Even Feed Foot due to the high sewing speed, so ensure that you have the correct foot, as the "normal" top loading machine foot will not fit.

I hope these images will assist in showing how the fitting should look.

From the Janome Accessories Guide:

"The even feed foot walks over fabric to assist with smooth feeding. Fabric can be sewn without puckering as the fabric is gripped and fed by both the upper and lower feed dogs. This foot has been specially designed for durability and to work at the high speeds of the 1600 series.

How do I set the Husqvarna 300 sewing machine to do free motion embroidery. Do I need the embroidery attachment and get the machine to embroider with or with out the card

You can do embroidery or you can do free motion. If you're quilting a quilt sandwich (fabric, batting, backing fabric), you probably want to do free motion quilting. Embroidery would work better on fabric (with a stabilizer) but without the batting and backing fabric.

For free motion, you want a free motion foot--your machine's manufacturer probably provided one in the accessory kit (called a darning foot) or there are many generic free motion feet available for purchase (ie Big Foot quilting foot...). The BIG difference with a darning foot or free motion foot is that the shank is shorter than other presser feet because there needs to extra space between the presser foot and the needle plate so the quilter can easily manipulate the fabric. Usually, free motion quilters will drop the feed dogs to avoid feed dog interference with the fabric's movement, however, some quilters don't drop the feed dogs--just whatever works best for you and your machine. In addition, I use a Supreme Slider on the sewing machine surface--a silicone mat that provides a slick surface to help the fabric move.

There are a lot of web sites and video tutorials on free motion quilting. Take some time to watch them and then practice, practice, practice! It's an acquired skill so the more you practice, the better you will be.

How do I attach the quilting bar to the walking foot on my Simplicity Quilters Classic? The manual doesn't show how to do it

There should be a hole across the back of the walking foot (penetrates the walking foot usually from right to left, although some feet will have 2 guides--one for left to right, the other left to right) where the bar mounts and a screw to tighten and hold it in place.

Do I use a twin needle with my narrow pintucking foot on my Elna quilter's Dream 2 sewing machine?

if you want to sew pin tucks, then yes, you could use that foot providing the hole is large enough for the two needles to pass through. Twin needles come in 4mm gap and 2.2mm gap so just check that it will fit. When using a twin needle, there is a lot of heat created so it is always important so sew slowly, going too fast will cause the needles to break.

Also, you should check on the twin needle type, modern machines now using a twin which is slightly offset, the block colour is usually a dark brown/red colour. Your machine may have come with a twin needle in the needle selection so take a good look at it and see if it is an offset one, then make sure you buy replacements of the same type.

THe pin tucking foot allows you to keep rows of pintucks lined up, it will have grooves in the base that you can run the previously stitched pintuck through to keep even distances. Best on lightweight fabrics like cottons, lawns, batiste etc. You'd probably go for the narrow 2.2mm twin needle to get a nice fine tuck. I like to press each seam after stitching too to give a sharp tuck.

How to attach a quilt guide

You have to unscrew the screw for the presser foot first. The walking foot will then fit. Use the same screw to attach the walking foot. Before you insert the screw, take the white handle on the walking foot and slide it on the screw arm for the needle. Now tighten the screw.
