top cause, modern cars, box is bad, pump weak , pump reg bad, seals leak inside, solenoids, bad or pressure reg solenoid bad or bad 1st gear clutch pack. and more, even bad gear selector cable. PRNDL , D and L are farther so , cable may not reach D or L. good luck find this with weak posts of missing key facts.

as with all elect. fails check all fuses

I would look for a loose electrical connection somewhere in the engine. Most likely an intermittent connection is sending bad information to the computer and it is setting the fuel / timing badly to try and compensate for the bad signal. Could be a bad computer too.
Try taking the car to a local autoparts store and have them read the engine codes.
take back to carwash and hit reverse button. it will remove all the water out of engine---bad for electronics, that why your auto no work good anymore never wash engine at car wash, bad bad bad. water goes where it shud not go---more bad,

The harmonic balancer controls the triggering of the combined crankshaft/camshaft sensor. This controls ignition plus fuel injection. Replace the balancer and adjust the sensor or replace it if damaged.
