My Magellan 315 has frozen and im trying to find out how to reset it. every time i power up it just goes to the last screen i was on. the only way to power down is pull the bat or press light, nav, go to and that forces a power down.
Occasionally, a
unit will need to be reset. This can be due to software errors,
firmware updates or simply at the command of technical support staff. A
reset either will restart the unit, possibly clearing up any minor
errors, or will restore the unit to the settings it was built with.
There are three major Magellan
units, which utilize different methods to perform this task.
Things You'll Need:
A thin object (such as a paper clip)
Using the stylus, tap "Main Menu" and select "View."
Tap "Settings," and select "Restore Factory Settings." You will be given
the option to confirm this action. Be sure that you want to reset to
the settings that the GPS was built with. This action is irreversible.
Tap "Confirm," and the unit will begin to
reset.
Maestro/Roadmate GPS Units
Locate the button marked "Reset" on the left, right or bottom of the
unit.
Using a thin object, such as a paper clip, depress the button for two to
three seconds. The unit should reset.
If the unit does not reset, immediately press the button again and hold
it for up to 10 seconds.
Tips & Warnings
Do
not attempt to perform a factory reset on the Roadmate or Maestro GPS
units by holding down both the "Reset" and "Power" buttons. This will
cause the GPS unit to format its own hard drive. Doing so will erase all
data, including the GPS software, from the unit.

Look in your manual on how to do a hard reset. Usually is holding the power button/slide on while resetting. That can get it out of loops. This is a more brute force reset that just using the reset button
If that doesn;t work you should talk to magellan tech support. They are quite helpfull and may have some differant way to reset things. And at worse will be able to tell you if it is time to send it in.
That unit does not have a touch screen so holding the screen while powering up wont do anything. I'm not sure which key it is on that model, but to do a reset you hold down one of the keys while powering up. Try holding down the enter key while you power up. If that doesn't work, try again with the other keys until you find it. If it doesn't reset, you may have a dead keypad.
I too have sometimes to wait for 20 mins before my Roadmate picks up all the satellites it needs. The problem is worse if I'm surrounded by buildings.
I have at last decided to bin the Magellan as it's been nothing but trouble and Magellan Support just don't seem to care to respond.
Am now getting a Tomtom Go series with all preloaded, maps/ traffic/ cameras - it auto updates each time it's put on its cradle attached to PC/internet.
Have you gone through the "Initialize" process again? If the memory has been cleared you will need to re-initialize. Refer to page 4 of your manual.
Power On > Select Language > "ENTER" > INITIALIZE screen > "ENTER" > Select Region > "ENTER" > Select Area > "ENTER" > Enter Elevation > "ENTER" (if you don't know elevation, press enter) > Enter Time > "ENTER" > Enter Date > "ENTER"
I own Two Magellan 315. They both have failed in exactly the same way as yours, will not lock on too a satillite. I have concluded that this is their design life and that is the end. I did post one to the Magillan repair centre in France but that disappeared. I have replaced the two of them from EBay and will see how I get on with those
