SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR500 Dolby Digital problem

I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1. According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected. Hope this helps. SOURCE: Surround Speakers stop working

More then likely unit has poor solder connections. Try lightly tapping on chassis to see if you can get audio to either cut on or off with the vibration, If you can unit has intermittent solder connections probably around power amp ic701 where most of the heat is generated. I have a PDF service manual if you need it for yourself or for a technician if you take it in for repair [email protected]

SOURCE: I HAVE AN ONKYO TX

The symptom you described can be caused by any number of things. I always start with the output power transistors which are the first things to blow with a speaker output overload condition. Unplug the power cord to your unit, remove the top cover and use an ohmmeter to check resistance from C to E on all 10 of the power transistors (Q6050 thru 54 and Q6060 thru 64) attached to the large heat sink. Blown transistors typically read <1 ohm, compared to good transistors that are >10k ohms. If you find a bad transistor it will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-DS 595 receiver surround channel unrealiable

How you power off the amp won't hurt it generally. I used to fix ONKYO amps under warranty, and I can tell you now, it will be full of dry solder joints. Take you unit to your local repairer, and they will resolder all the offending PCB's inside. This type of repair will fix 99% of strange audio noises and cutting in and out etc. for ONKYO recievers. Otherwise this is quite a good product.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the advice! I'm going back to the shop where I bought it seven years ago to see if there are any reasonably priced repair options."

Hello Fixya team, I need help!

To set up your home theater system with the equipment you mentioned, follow these steps:
  1. Connect the Onkyo receiver to the NEC TV using an HDMI cable. Make sure the HDMI input on the TV is set to the correct input for the Onkyo receiver.
  2. Connect the Panasonic DVD player to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
  3. Connect the Firestick Lite to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
  4. Connect the Panasonic speakers to the Onkyo receiver using speaker wires. Make sure you connect the speakers to the correct speaker terminals on the receiver, which are usually labeled with the speaker's position (e.g. front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right).
  5. Configure the Onkyo receiver to use the correct input for each device. For example, set the input to "DVD" when you want to watch a movie on the Panasonic DVD player, or set the input to "Firestick" when you want to watch content on the Firestick Lite.
  6. Configure the audio settings on the Onkyo receiver to use the correct audio format for your content. For example, if you are watching a movie with Dolby Digital surround sound, make sure the receiver is set to decode Dolby Digital audio.
  7. Adjust the volume and other audio settings on the Onkyo receiver as needed to optimize the sound quality.
Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to enjoy surround sound audio from your Panasonic speakers through the Onkyo receiver.

No surround sound on rear speakers and cant access speaker set up functions. left front channel not working when rears set up without surround

from the problem description, it sounds like a wiring/setup problem with the speakers. check to make sure you are only using the main 'a' front r & l speaker connectors. if you select speaker set a + b on the front, you will not have the rear channels. please see the speaker connection guidelines in the manual on page 13-15. make sure the audessey mike and/or headphones are not plugged in when trying to use the speaker set up function.

Very dull sound from the 4 rear spekers on my 7.1 set up for the ONKYO 802. This happens for the satellite input for tv channels, is this normal that I will only get surround sound via a disc or other...

Your basic setup through the Onkyo establishes the base levels of each speaker channel with test tones. The tones should also sound pretty much the same from speaker to speaker.

How a given surround mode works with a given input would be documented in the manual. Even stereo sources can be proecessed into some form of 7-speaker output.

"ONKYO 802" is not unique. Are there letters?

I have just set up my onkyo 5305 i only have sound to front speakers have checked connection but im lost now in the settings

Onkyo are known for having 2 seperate connections for the rear speakers. 1 set for a surround sound, channel "A", and 1 set for seperate set a speakers, channel "B". check for the second set of connections. Also, your only gonna get sound out of the rear speakers thru surround sound mode when the unit actually sends singal. The sound is determined buy what setting you have the receiver set to.

Onkyo TX-DS696 receiver center channel not working

Can you say explicitly that the Center Channel speaker is defined as something other than NONE?

And how does dialog sound? If it sounds ok you're routing it to the front speakers. This is from the manual...

"For ideal Surround effects, all speakers should be installed. If a
center speaker or subwoofer is not connected, the sound from the unused channel is properly distributed to the connected speakers in order to produce the best Surround sound possible."

Hi there. If you are running a 5.1 speaker system, make sure your surround speakers are on the surround terminal NOT ON THE SURROUND BACK. the surround back is only for the 7.1 speaker system.

it is highly likely that you're TV is outputting mono sound, hence the left channel only. check your physical connections to the TV and the balance / channel volume on the television as well.
