You should not have a problem doing that. Your motherboard has a PCI Express X16 slot available. If you have problems when running intensive gaming then you may need to upgrade your PSU to a higher watttage. The 9800 GT is very power hungry. One problem you may have is that if your computer is a HP Slimline there might not be enough room inside the case for that card and you might need a low profile graphics card.

Hello,

I investigate the vidoe card and would caution you to put that into you computer for the following reasons:

1. Power supply

Make sure you have at least a 500 Watt power supply so your system will be able to have enough power for the rest of the machine. Most cards have pci-e power connectors most cards have two connectors, So you need at least 1 of those for your motherboard to run your pci-e slots or if its dual core or 4 cores ect ect.

Overloading a power supply can result into malfuction or early death of the power supply.

160 watts is what the card may need I seen them at 240 watss just for the card alone. BE careful.. Just because it has a pci-e slot does not mean it will work out the box.

Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at https://www.6ya.com/expert/edwy_1a56970cf1ea4620

Bios setup gone wrong

Since you didn't have any problem before the update, you could flash the BIOS (revert to it's original state) by shutting down, disconnecting all power (battery for laptops), then removing the CMOS battery for 5 or 10 minutes. Replace the battery, reconnect, then boot and your BIOS should flash and return to it's initial revision and default settings.

Want to know

Hi lokarpit,

I've got good news for you! Your Presario's motherboard only supports Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards, and your GeForce 8600 GT is a PCI Express x16 graphics card.

However, I'm a bit concerned about the graphics card being 1gb? Both Nvidia's 8600GT and 8600GTS came out with only 256mb GDDR3 memory on them. Are you sure you have the right card?

But, if you have one with 1gb, the motherboard won't care, it's the graphics card that actually, will either work all 1gb, or only the 256mb if it's been changed.

Good Luck to you, and my answer is as long as it's a PCI Express X16 card, Yes, GO FOR IT!

Don't forget the leave a rating based on my solution.
