Fitted 1GB RAM yesterday, computer worked fine, today started okay, but later on it had turned the power off and will not power up now (emachne 32300

If you get no power, it sounds like possibly the power supply may be bad. If you can replace the power supply with known working unit, that would be a good start. If at that point you still get no power, then possibly the motherboard could have gone bad. Even without the ram installed you should get power through the board and when you try to boot you should get a beep or series of beeps. I would start with the power supply tho.

Emachine d2880 power on switch is bad. How do I work around? Is there a way to short the pins on mother board to turn on my PC? In words do you have connection details for power on switch wires to mother...

In your computer you have a power switch located on the PC chassis, you will find two wires coming off of it. At the end these two wires you should find a black 2 pin push plug. This should be connected to your mainboard. On your mainboard, the header for LEDs, hdd, power etc, you should see two pins labled power. Switch push plug goes over these two pins or these two pins labeled power can be shorted with a screwdriver, however this can be risky as it is very easy to touch other pins in the process and kill the mainboard. Rather use a push plug!
You can also read my guide as your computer my not be POSTing, my published guide is entitled My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

All the best!

Emachine D2880 no power clarification

your getting power to your PSU, via the green light on your mobo.
verify the PSU has a green light(most emachines do)
it sort of sounds stupid but, check the connection of the cable coming from the front of the case(the wires that connect to the mobo to the power button on the outside of the case.

if all else fails, take the pc out of the case.. put all components on a static free bag and start to rebuild your PC(without a case)
...this will rule out a short on the PC case, and faulty wiring from the case...

pretty much sounds like you've been through almost every step except replacing the PSU(you just said you tested/but your getting power to the PSU)

hope some of this helped

Emachine D2880-No Power

Probably yes, the poiwer-source may be delivering "dirty" power (happens also when using a back-up generator, as in the power in the building goes out, or when used in an old RV, and the back-up kicks in) <--- is a safety feature to protect the CPU. Try also a different powerstrip, or head off to the neighbors and try their plug before swapping out the power supply.

In the end, you may wish purchase an inexpensive clone-tower, swap out the HD and processor (if you are spending too much time and money trying to band-aid the old one)

Hope this helps!
