My top shelve sprayer arm does not spin

My kitchenaid top shelf spray arm does not spin. I have check for obstruction - found none. All parts look good. Lower arm is spinning.
Dishwasher is filling with water to proper level and working properly except for the arm not spining. I have removed the top shelf and applied water pressure from exterior house water hose - arm still does not spin.
Arm will spin by hand. Help - How much water pressure does this arm need to see to work.

SOURCE: how do remove the sprayer arm?

Hi mathenywasja,
For removal of spray follow :-
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/dishwasher/check/sprayarm.php

http://www.partselect.com/repair.aspx?appliance=dishwasher∂=remove-spray-arms

To replace pump, procedure would be :-
The pump is not difficult to remove and replace. If you have a little bit of mechanical ability, you can replace the pump easily. You can find the pump by following the drain line into the bottom of the dishwasher. The drain line connects to the pump.
The pump will come out fairly easily by removing a couple of fasteners. Make sure you find an exact replacement part or you could be in for a world of trouble.

SOURCE: Frigidaire Dishwasher - Spray Arm Not Working

When a dishwasher has been checked for obstructions in the sump area and the spray arms can spin easily (by hand) plus the spray arm holes are not blocked, you end up with either a broken impeller or a failing wash pump motor.

Most likely the circulation pump. On this pump there is mounted a condensator. This will help the pump to get started. If this is broken, it wont circulate the water up to the sprayers.

My kitchenaid dishwasher the water does not get to the upper rack...and the dishes on the second rack on not clean at all....

There is a pipe/tube that runs up the back of the inside of your dishwasher. This provides water for the top spray arm. The spray arm has a feeder tube that covers the pipe in the back. If for some reason the feeder tube has come dislodged, the water just drips back down into the dishwasher, never touching your upper shelf. My kids used to jam cutting boards and other large items into the lower shelf and in so doing, would dislodge the upper spray arm feeder tube. Just pull out the upper shelf and check to see that the tube is in the correct position. This should solve the problem.
If not, then the spray arm may have debris in it that keeps the water from being forced through the jets. You'll need to flush the arm with the spray attachment on your kitchen sink. I sometimes use tweezers or a toothpick to dislodge bits of peelings, paper, or bone that manage to get into the sprayer arm.
I hope one of these tips helps. If it does, please come back to fixya and rate my answer

Dishes on top shelf do not get clean.

Your sprayer arms may be clogged.
The upper arm attaches to a tube in the back of the dishwasher. If the support clamps come loose, the upper spray tube will not be flush with the tube and can't carry water to the sprayer arms. Also the sprayer arms can become clogged with paper remnants, bone fragments, or pieces of peeling. You'll need to remove the sprayer arm and flush it at your sink. If there is a jet that is clogged, tweezers will help remove the residue.

After filling and only when rinse commences a loud chattering noise begins. Somewhat like a circuit breaker making intermittent contact. It ends when I cancel and remains silent while the pump empties...

  • It sounds like you have an obstruction with upper or lower spray arm. check to see if the something is stuck in the path of the lower spray arm.
  • move the lower rack out
  • spin the spray arm by hand to see if it is hitting anything
  • if not .....spin the upper spray arm by hand under top shelf to see if it is hitting anything.
  • let me know how this works
