Hepa (HAP223) This unit worked great the first day but then never worked the same again. What happened?

HEPA is a type of air purifier. It stands for high-efficiency particulate air. To qualify as a HEPA filter by government standards the filter must remove 99.7% of all particles larger than 0.3 micrometers from the air. The only two parts requiring any service are the activated carbon pre-filter and the HEPA filter. No tools are needed. To change either filter, disassemble the unit as shown.
1. Loosen the carrying handle by turning it counterclockwise and lift filter cage cover from unit.
2. Lift HEPA filter and activated carbon pre-filter from the base.
3. Remove the fasteners from the activated carbon pre-filter and remove it from the HEPA filter cartridge.
4. Replace filter(s) as needed, and discard used filters.
5. Wrap the activated carbon pre-filter around the HEPA filter cartridge and secure it with the fasteners provided

According to the Owners Manual, here's what you need to do,

1.Turn the air cleaner OFF and unplug it from the power outlet.

2. Carefully lay the unit down on a flat surface with the Front Grille facing up.

3. Gently push in on Release Buttons on both sides of the unit, pull Front Grille out and away.

4. Remove and discard used HEPA filter.

5. Remove any plastic protective wrapping and from the new HEPA filter.

6. Set new HEPA filter into the air cleaner.

7. Install the Front Grille by engaging its tabs into the bottom slots on the unit. Then swing grille up and gently push in top to snap into place.

8.Turn the Air Cleaner upright and plug it into an outlet for
operation.

Yes. You will have a prefilter and after that you will have a HEPA filter. Keep good maintenance on the prefilters which are not washable. You will need to check it once a month to see if it is time to replace. If you have good maintenance on the unit and change the cheaper prefilter, you will get years of service out of you HEPA filter. Bad maintenance means replacing the HEPA filter which is a good chunk of the cost of the purifier.

when the filter is full, pressing the button resets the cutout. either shake out the filter or replace with a new one.

the unit probably needs to be reset. cause what's happening is that it's not recognizing that the filters are clean. there should be a tiny pin hole at the top of the unit. when the unit is on you need to put a small needle in there and hold for about 5 seconds and the unit should reset. if that doesn't work please please let me know and i will see what else we can do.

you have had the thing for 8 mos try cleaning the hepa filter with a vacuum use the brush type attchment or u might have defective filters go to kaz.com or contact honeywell
