19" Princeton Monitor vl193 will not turn on!

This monitor has performed flawlessly for over 10 years. The monitor connector plug was loose and fell out when moving the monitor on my desk. When I plugged the it in while still connected to my computer, the monitor did not power up! It appears as the monitor is not getting power. I check the power cord and the voltage is correct. I connect my wife's monitor and it works using the same connections.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Best regards,

Barry

SOURCE: i have the princeton VL193 monitor. Its blank, no power light

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed Princeton monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Testimonial: "thank you the explanation sounds like its right on the mark. Unfortunately, I see these being sold used for under $50 so it is not worthwhile for me to repair as I don't have the expertise and I would think I would be charged at least that by a shop.I was hoping there was a reset button as I think the monitor succumb to an outage. Thanks again. "

SOURCE: stuck in power save mode

Have you have selected the input you are using? You can switch between analog and digital input. The monitor would stay in power save if the input other than the one you are using is selected.
I believe the default input is DVI. Are you using VGA?
In the menu, under advanced, you can select the input.

Hi

Desktop PCs automatically seek an external monitor to output graphics to. Laptops default settings send the image to the internal monitor. You need to manually instruct the laptop to export the image to an external monitor.

With the cable connected and the monitor powered up, try pressing the Fn key (bottom left of keyboard) on the laptop and simultaneously pressing the function key at the top ofthe keyboard with an image of 2 monitors (often F5 or F6) to sent d the image to the external screen.

I hope this helps.

Depending on which version of windows you have the directions may be slightly different but in the display settings check to see if it is set to extend the display or to duplicate the display both do very different things. Hopefully adjusting this will correct your issue.

What is an average life for a Princeton Monitor. My seem to last for a little over two years. This is with daily use for eight to ten hours.

Two years is still new. Your monitor should last several years at least. I say should last, but the manufacturer will give you a 1 year warranty. Basically i year is nothing at all. I've had monitors from a variety of manufacturers and all have lasted at least 5 years and most lasting much longer. The monitors I'm referring to were used in a business and were on a minimum of 10 hours per day. I had some Princeton monitors that lasted equally long. You can complain to the manufacturer, but it may not get you any satisfaction.
