I have a Realtek hd audio driver on my Windows xp Media Center Edition version 2002 with SP3. I can listen to anything online and offline but I can't record anything using my Wave Pad sound editor or Acoustic Labs Multi-track recorder or any music editing software. I opened up my device manager and there is a message stating that another sound driver has disabled my Microsoft wnmm wnm Audio Compatbility Driver. I do not have the windows xp cd. I don't believe that there is anything wrong with my sound card just can't record for some reason. Need help please.....

There is really only 1 way to install the Realtek HD Audio drivers properly. No matter what all other forums say. Service Pack 3 is the main culprit as the drivers see that its above SP2 and dont install. I personally face this situation and was really distressed because it looked like either i will have to reinstall Windows Xp or have my new supercool and super monster computer without sound. Imagine having a monster PC with a motherboard with HD Audio and your driver doesnt install.
Both scenarios were something which i would never have approved of. Anyway so i Googled. I got 10s of solutions but most didnt work. Only 1 worked and i will put it here hoping that Google dear will catch it and people who face this problem installing the Realtek HD Audio 0xE000027.

1. First Step is to make sure all instances Realtek Audio and its associative softwares are uninstalled from add remove programs and device manager. This includes Intel High Definition audio.
2. On your PC change the CSDVersion registry key to Windows XP SP2:
   HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=200

This problem arises as the patch thinks that SP3 includes a better version of the patch itself and hence doesn’t install itself.
3. Download the latest drivers from the Intel website, navigate to the KB888111 patch.
4. But before installing the patch, goto your device manager and disable the UAA. Now uninstall the UAA.
5. Install your patch now.
6. Install the Realtek drivers now and things should work.
7. Change the SP version to 300 again.
If it didnt work, try once again. Hopefully Error 0xE000027 is fixed now.

Open your control panel.
Click on Sounds and Audio Devices with the control panel in classic mode.
Click on the Audio tab.
Is Realtek HD Audio Input Device listed as the default device under Sound recording?
If not, select that from the drop down list and click Apply/OK.

find the wdm folder in your audio driver in there install the latest update for your sound driver

I had the same problem while installing a GeForce 7050M-M motherboard w/AMD quad core processor. I kept getting the message "install Realtek HD Audio driver failure!!" message. After many hours of futility, and reading possible solutions on the internet, I got it working this way: First, go into your cmos setup and disable your onboard audio. Then after you boot up, go into 'control panel' and then 'add/remove programs' and remove any program associated with high definition audio. The Realtek programs that I had tried to install were in mine, so I deleted them. Then I clicked on 'start' and then 'search', and put this in the search window: 'hdaud' for high definition audio. Several files came up, and I deleted them, which put them all in the recycling bin. I didn't empty the bin, in case I screwed up something and had to restore the files later. I then rebooted, and being probably overcautious, let the computer come up and then went back into 'add/delete programs' to make sure there were no HD audio programs in there, and then double checked for any files by going back into 'search' and searching for 'hdaud' files like before. A file somehow had appeared there associated with Realtek, so I deleted it. Then I rebooted, and at reboot went into cmos setup and enabled my onboard audio. When the computer came up, the 'found new hardware' message popped up. When you see this DO NOT let the computer look for the driver. Hit 'cancel', and load your Realtek audio drivers from your setup disc or from whatever location you have them in. You may see the additional message about the driver not loading and your sound not working right, but ignore it, it's because you clicked on 'cancel'. Just let it finish it's install from your setup disc. When mine finished successfully for the first time now, and it prompted me to reboot because of the new drivers just installed, I actually got the 'shutdown' sound out my speakers-the first peep I heard out of them since I started this adventure early yesterday. When the computer came up, lo and behold I had sound. I was about ready to give up and go out and buy a sound card, but stubborness prevailed. So in short review:

1. Disable your onboard audio in CMOS
2. Go into 'add/remove programs' and delete any and all HD audio programs
3. Go into 'search' and type in 'hdaud' and delete those files that come up.
4. Reboot and double check 2 and 3 above.
5. Reboot and go into CMOS and enable your onboard audio.
6. Load your audio drivers from your setup disc-DO NOT LET THE COMPUTER LOOK FOR A DRIVER THRU THE 'FOUND NEW HARDWARE' PROMPT-PRESS CANCEL.
7. Reboot and hopefully, enjoy the sound.

The driver should be on the motherboard CD. If not go to the website for the MB or Realtek or try drivers . com
It might be on the server 2003 disk so try a reinstall of the driver ONLY from that CD.

The driver you are installing needs more requirements. try to install driver from mother board CD. If not try to download realtek HD driver compatible to your processor.
