First off - have you ever cleaned inside the case? You'd be very surprised how much dust often builds up inside a PC. After that it sounds like you might have another fan which has failed. PCs often have more than one inside and they also have temperature sensors to keep the CPU cool. If a case fan has failed it would not have air flowing inside to cool off the other components and then the CPU sensor would kick the processor fan into "overdrive". One thing to note; the difference between a two wire fan and a three wire fan is that the third wire is used to confirm the speed of the fan. Fans are usually easy to replace - just get the right size and the same right plug.

HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx keeps overheating and shutting down

sure it does all PCs do that, full of lint, all do.
we clean it.
it has fan and vents
all fans all vents and heatsinks must breath or it overheats.
all do that not cleaned, drive your car around with the radiator blocked, boom.
all PCs run slow overheated, by DESIGN.
this slow down , reduces heat, and saves CPU/GPU burn up.
just like my chevy, truck, it cuts cylinders to save the engine.
same deal both.

same deal; same reasons.

My hp pavillion computer shuts down same time nearly every day.

This is probably due to having a scheduled task that shuts down your computer. Check your scheduled tasks, and delete the restart entry.

PC runs great until you power completely off. The it will take several tries of power on attempts. It will not start with the CPU fan coming on high speed. Must keep trying until low speed is heard. I...

Sounds like a problem with the power supply based on what you've written. Could be motherboard too, but Power Supply is usually the culprit.

I'd swap it out to test ;)

My computer keeps shutting down randomly. Also when i try to use F10 it will not respond if i try and run error checking the system will crash/shut down or give me a black screen. Basicly it randomly...

Possibilities:
1. overheating, and automatic shutdown.
Check that the fans are working.

2. bad RAM, causing "random" crashing.
On a "good" computer, download the free 'MEMTEST86+' software, and run it, to test your RAM.

3. Leaking capacitors on motherboard, causing "voltage-spikes", leading to "random" errors.

4. Bad disk-drive. Remove the disk-drive.
Connect it as a "slave" drive in another computer,
and run 'CHKDSK' ("Check Disk") to look for problems.
