with operating systems , it is only necessary to upgrade if you receive a notice that the current os( operating system) is no longer being supported ( no upgrades to eliminate problems )
an example here is the win 10 upgrade from a previous win 7 , vista etc
this up grade has conflicts with the installed os so it is better to get the win 10 program and install it in full rather than upgrade to win 10
Using mac os and you are happy and confident in the use of that version and there is no notice that that version will no longer be supported, then stay with what you know and is trouble free
however if you want more from the mac os consider buying the program and installing it complete rather than an up grade on the current base os
for advice on this sort of problem , go google and find forums on the subject and then make your decision or talk with a computer repair guy to get good information
As far as I know, there are no legitimate download sites for the Mac OS 10.x installer. For your computer, you'd want an OS 10.5 installation disk set. You can find them on eBay for about $50 or so.

If you need a newer version of Mac OS , you would have to purchase it. Mac OS does not update from 9.1 to 10.X
Mac 9.1 is about 10 years old.
In May 2002, at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California, Steve Jobs, accompanied by a coffin, held a mock funeral[5] to announce that Apple had stopped development of Mac OS 9. Mac OS 9.2.2, introduced in December 2001, was the final version of Mac OS 9, and the end of the classic Mac OS. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe

The Mac OS X Installer makes sure your computer can use the version of Mac OS X you're trying to install. Troubleshooting tip: If you see a message that you cannot install Mac OS X on this computer, even though it should work with Mac OS X, you may need to install a firmware update. Restart your computer from the hard drive and install the latest firmware :
you need to use generic driver for MAC... What kind of MAC OS are you using? MAC 10 have the drivers installed on the computer and you don't need to install the software.
