I have a connection or charging problem the laptop acer aspire 1300 works on power supply but if the lead is moved it cuts out and the battery is not taking a charge at all - is this likely to be a dead battery or something more please?

It's has a colder solder or bad connection at the power jack - Acer's are notorious for this problem. It's a bad design. They have a tendencies to break easily if you tug too hard on the cable. The only way to fix this is to dissect the entire laptop and re-solder or replace the power jack.

If the power LED is lit before connecting to your laptop and then goes out as soon as you connect to your laptop, then you either have a short circuit in the power supply module of your laptop, or you battery is causing the fault.

Remove the battery and try again. If it powers up the battery needs replacing. If the problem is still the same then you need someone to look at the power supply module in the laptop

It could be an AC adaptor issue.

It should boot when connected directly to the power outlet through the laptop adaptor. If it is not boot, then the adaptor might not be supplying the needed power to boot it up.

If it is possible, try to isolate the issue. Charge your new battery using another laptop. Then plug it in your laptop to see if it works. If it will work, then it is the AC adaptor of your laptop that is defective. If the charged battery still won't make the laptop boot, then there is something wrong with your laptop hardware. If could be a motherboard issue of your laptop.

Does the cable seems cut near the jacks? Try with two car lamps connected in series (12v each) to see if the power supply works OK.

If your power adapter is still putting out the correct voltage when it is plugged into the wall, then you can safely assume that the adapter connection on the motherboard has come loose.
It can be replaced, but it is sort of tricky. You are probably looking at buying a new motherboard.

Just plug the computer into the wall with the supplied power cord (while the battery is in the computer). This will charge your battery.

There is a battery cycle reset in BIOS. try that first. If not see if you still have manufacturer warranty to get a new battery.

i have that problem as well ill have power one minute the charge light comes on then if i move my laptop pooof its gone i think its internal maybe a loose salder leading to the power supply. so try ro check it out u might have to take it apart to check it but no u dont need a new laptop..

Will the unit work without the battery? The new Lithium Ion batteries can be overcharged and then cause all kinds of strange problems. Take the battery to a reputable electronics shop or Batteries Plus and have them run a voltage and current test. The current test being the most revealing. If either of these is higher than the level printed on the battery, dispose of it. Also, check ACER's web site for battery problems. All the computer manufacturers have had battery problems.

I,d suspect your problem will lie with, the systems CPU ( Processor ) or a component Overheating on the systems Motherboard. I would,nt suspect the Power Supply personally. unless your batterys not charging.
