My daughter wanted to run the timer on the microwave but accidentally ran the oven for 16 minutes. It overheated and blew out. Can this be repaired?

Your can be repaired, but it's generally not worth the cost. Running the oven empty usually destroys the magnetron tube which generates the microwaves. The tube is replaceable, but it's a costly part. And the repair should be done by a professional because of safety concerns. Between the cost of parts and labor, it's usually not much more (and sometimes even less!) expensive to buy a new oven.

While the kitchen timer feature of a microwave is handy, many people accidentally kill their ovens this way. You might want to pick up a small digital timer when you shop for a new oven. It's cheap insurance.

Unit is dead after accidentally running it empty.

If you ran it for that long with nothing inside, there is a good chance it self cooked.

It can probably be repaired. The economics of the repair is something you will have to judge for yourself.

To assist you, may i suggest you visit www.repairclinic.com and check on some major parts for your make and model. If the parts = more than 25% of replacement, I think id be moving on. Expect to pay a pro at least $100.00/hr labor. You should NOT do it unless you are skilled at handling delicate and lethal electronics. A microwave can kill. Another thing, after you fix it, you have a lot of $ invested and still have a old machine that ran for 13 + minutes empty.

Kenmore 401.8008700 ran 10 minutes thought I'd set on timer

It could be the fuse. You will also need to check the condition and alignment of the door switches.

No Power

HI, there is a inline fuse located inside the microwave ion the power supply board. check for continuity. replace the fuse if necessary. if the fuse is OK, replace the power supply board.

I have an Amana Radarange Microwave Oven Model #44-9 that I purchased in 1976. Accidentally I used the microwave instead of the timer for 30 minutes and about 25 minutes into the cooking I heard a pop. ...

Is that model number RR-9?

You can find and order that part (# AP118264) here.

I just hope your magnetron is not blown, too. (Does it still heat?)

You can use a microwave-safe plate in the meantime.

Microwave won't work

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.
