Compaq Presario V2000 will not boot.

The laptop is about 5 years old running Winxp home.
Shut down normally last time is used it.
Power supply has light on it.
The battery has never lasted on it's own for more than about 15-20mins but has never been an issue.

When I turn it on the power light on the power button stays on, the power light and hard drive light stay on...all solid. The fan start for a second or two but thats it? Cold boot and restart several times but now help.

Have tried a few thing I found by googling....
Took the memory out and back in...no help.
Took out battery and power cord. Help power button 30secs then replaced power cord...then battery...no help.

Hope someone can help?

The battery has not worked well for years? Only lasted about a year...same as the original power supply. Never had a problem till now. Current power supply is Targus ac70u.

you should know, battery live is 3 wears or 1000 cycles of charge/discharge. I think your battery is over. You may check battery in the BIOS if you have such sensor.

Remove the battery and just leave it off the computer, then plug in the power cord and try it. If it works with no battery...the battery is completely dead and you need to replace.

Testimonial: "Took out battery and plugged in power. I get the same thing...power button...power light...hard drive light are all solid."

Is the Targus ac70u the factory power supply and was it the same one you used to successfully boot previously? If it isn't and is a third party power supply, you may have one or two issues. Either it is not supplying enough power for the laptop or too much and/or the polarity on the tip could be reversed. The factory one is 65W I believe so make sure you are getting the right amount of wattage. If the aftermarket power supply has a voltage selector, make sure your setting is per the specs on the bottom of the laptop or the setting just above (i.e. if the laptop calls for 13.6 volts and your supply switches from 13 volts to 14 volts, leave it on 14 volts as the lower setting won't work right). Lastly, if it has a detachable two-prong tip, you might have the tip backwards which reverses the polarity of the positive and ground terminals in the tip so try switching that. Hope this helps!

Won't boot up, Hard drive self test result #1-07 Fail

Hi there.
The hard drive has failed and you will need to replace it.
If the laptop is under a year old take advantage of the warranty and send it in to be repaired for free.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My HP Compaq Presario v2000 has new mobo, new CPU

You probably put more than a pin-head size drop of heat grease compound on CPU, thus "bleeding" over on the CPU, effectively overheating processor (very common). In any event, your problem is overheating -that's *the* place to look for now.

Computer just shut off and won't come back on

One last resort would be to check the power connector at the rear of the laptop,,,if that is found to be connecting ok,,(need a volt meter to test) then i would say you need a new mainboard, time to visit ebay.

Compaq notebook won't boot up

Hi

When you boot the computer back up go into Safe Mode and check to see if you can roll the computer back to the point before you installed the software.

If so this should work. If it works then run a virus scan, a defrag of the hard drive and cleans the temp files.

OR

You can do a diagnostic startup and uninstall Onecare. So once that it is uninstall ed it should be smooth sailing.

Here is a link for some startup / diagnostic software you could try after booting.

I hope this helps
