I have a Stratus 5 radio on a motorcycle that keeps losing antenna "NO ANTENNA". all connections are good and have tried 3 different antenna's

you are not planning to talk on this radio are you? Install your antenna where you can get the most out of it.Such as on the front right side near the windshield or install a mount near the top drivers side rear.Any way you should make sure you have a good ground and an SWR under 3:1 @ 3:1 you are losing 75% of your power to the radio and coax and 25% to the antenna but the lower the better . Try different places on your vehicle as to where you get the best place to put the antenna. Get a feild strength meter also,it will help you find the best position.

If you are getting the same "check antenna" message with two different antennas, it is likely that the tuner itself is the problem. You can get just the mini tuner here:

As far as the two plug connection, there are adapters available. Its likely a dual fakra connection, though I don't know for sure. At any rate, this is one adapter available. (I would call to confirm)

The small, gold, circular connector on the bottom of the unit. You can purchase a repair on eBay if the antenna connection has loosened itself from the board.

Sounds like a ground problem. Pull radio check connections on rear if radio and make sure antenna lead is tight. Antenna lead is where radio gets ground (lead is thick round cable)

The problem will lie with one or combination of the radio, the antenna or antenna cable. Check the antenna. If it is the type that can be unscrewed from the body of the car, do so. Check and clean any mating surfaces. Dirt & oxidation are enemies of electrical connections. Check the antenna cable everywhere it is exposed. Look for cuts in the jacket which can allow water in and causes oxidation. Check the connection at the radio, too. Make sure it is free of dirt and oxidation too. Clean the connectors and reconnect. Be sure that the plug connections are fully seated in the jacks. If you find a damaged cable or connector, it should be replaced. many times, replacing the cable will be very difficult - you might want to try installing a new antenna and cable instead of trying to reuse the old antenna. These are often available for sale in the automotive sections of department stores, and in automobile specialty stores. Try connecting everything together to make sure it works before punching holes in the body of the car.

The issue may be the radio itself. Try connecting a different radio - either an identical factory radio that is known to be good - or an aftermarket radio to is also known to be good. All of these issues can be a logical point of failure - especially if you purchased the car used. There's no telling how the car's radio and antenna might have been used or abused before you took ownership of the car.

Well Yes you can improve the reception, please follow the below steps -

Improve FM Radio Reception -
 
1. If you don't have an antenna connected to your FM receiver, purchase a simple dipole antenna--a simple T-shape flexible wire-- and connect it to the FM antenna inputs on the receiver. Because FM signals are directional, you'll want to experiment with the positioning of the wire to find the best reception of the station you're trying to receive.
 
2. If you're still not getting a good signal, try an indoor amplified antenna, which you'll find at an electronics store. Don't buy one unless you get a guarantee that you can return it for full credit if it doesn't solve your reception problems.
 
3. If your signal is weak because you live a long way from the transmitter, install an outside antenna and mount it as high as is practical. If you're primarily interested in getting signals from one station or from a group of stations in one direction, get a directional antenna and point it toward the transmitters.
 
4. If you're using a portable FM radio where the only antenna is the power cord, stretch the cord as straight as possible and experiment with positioning again.
 
5. Temporarily switch to monaural mode to improve a weak signal on an FM receiver.


Improve AM Reception -
 
1. Gradually rotate the radio 360 degrees. Leave it in the position where it sounds best.
 
2. Reverse the AC plug if it isn't polarized. (If you can flip the plug over, then it's non-polarized.)
 
3. Plug the radio into a different AC outlet.
 
4. Move the radio closer to a window.
 
5. Experiment to learn if appliances and powered products in your home are causing interference: computer monitor, television, electric blanket, light dimmer, fluorescent light, hair dryer, air conditioner, smoke detector. If possible, turn off the offending item. Otherwise, move the radio to another room.
 
6. Upgrade to an external antenna if your receiver, tuner or radio has a place to connect one.
 
7. Buy a passive AM antenna that doesn't need to be connected to a radio or receiver.

Are you missing the center pin, by chance (which often snaps if the plug isn't lined up correctly or if you wiggle the lead to connect or disconnect)?
I fixed mine by inserting a 1.5CM piece of very thin but stiff copper wire into the dimple. You may have to 'coax' it a bit with needle nose pliers.

if you plug and unplug your antenna connection to the receiver a lot it loses the ground(shielded) line connection, if your lucky you can take a safety pin and CAREFULLY bend the radios 4 outer shell antenna contacts inward to make contact with the antenna connector, if its the plug on the antenna,try pushing wire in toward plug connection to the radio...delphi never had much for life on any external products that fit their XM radios but when you need repl parts boy are they waiting for you, and they got them

A ground wire will not replace the lack of ground plane. Try a different antenna altogether (possibly one with a magnet mount) and mount it on some metal surface like even the front hood and retest.

I am sure the problem you will find is with the lack of a proper ground plane.
