Hi, I have a kitchenaid 600 stand mixer. It's purchased in the US, and therefore has a motor that requires 110 volt/60Hz. I'm moving back to Europe soon, and want to take the mixer with me. Is it possible to replace the motor? Is that the only difference between the American and European models? If so, where could I purchase a 220 volt/50 Hz motor??

Kitchenaid does not recommend using a US model mixer overseas since the frequency is different. Here in the States we use 120 Volts 60 Hertz, it Europe they use 240 Volts 50 Hertz so even if you were to feed it the correct voltage, the frequency would still be lower and the mixer would run slower and hotter causing shortened life of overheating.
The loud pop was probably the soft start circuit board on the motor. You can buy this board at repair sites or Ebay. And yes, they make 220V versions of this mixer.
You need a Step Down Voltage Converter (also called a Voltage Transformer) which steps down 240, 230, 220 volts to 110 volts and allows you to use 110 volts Devices from USA in 220 v / 230 v / 240 v Countries

Sadly, there is a 95% chance that only the control board has been blown, not the motor. I have added a link below for you to purchase a new control board if you wish:
Maiins Voltage in Aus is nominally 240 Volts, so plugging in directly with an adaptor will fuse motor. The only way to use the Miixer is to purchase a step down transformer (ie 240 V to 110 V) with a minimum rating at least equal to the power of the mixer which is 250 Watts. You should be able to purchase the transformer online or through Jaycar Electronics (branches in most major cities) . They are not that cheap but would be less than getting a new mixer rated at the correct voltage and it would also let you power other 110 V items that you have provided you don't exceed the transformer rating.
I can not respond to the warranty issues. My kitchen aid mixer is past warranty as well. I live in a country that uses 220V and my kitchen aid mixer is 110V. I have been using my kitchen aid mixer for almost 4 years with no problems at all.
The converter boxes are supposed to blow the fuse on the converter before it reaches your appliance and cause any problems.
If you purchase a 220V kitchen aid (although it would cost more money) it would probably have more power because of the higher voltage.
