Mine did the same thing, I found the answer here on fixya.
    Adjust Freezer Temp (Warmer)
    Express Thaw
    Adjust Refrigerator Temp (Colder)

Doing this makes it beep 3 times and resets the board so the thaw led turns off for good.

We have a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator which we purchased in 2002, Model PSS25NGNACC. Today we had a repairman come to investigate why the Express Thaw 3lb. light was on and could not be shut off. If shut off, it came on again when the door was closed and reopened. The repairman called GE and learned that this light was an air filter change indicator which turns on at some interval (2 years, they said, although we don't remember ever seeing this before). The air filter involved is for the interior of the fridge and is not critical. GE said that newer master control boards have this function disabled, since people rarely changed the filter and GE no longer makes them. I have read our user manual cover to cover and find nothing on this filter. I guess we just have to pay the $70 dollars to have someone come and call GE to figure it out. But, enough of that. To reset the indicator, simultaneously press the following keys on the touchpad and hold for 5 seconds until it beeps:

Adjust Freezer Temp (Warmer)
Express Thaw
Adjust Refrigerator Temp (Colder)

Lights and functions should return to normal.

After you reser the indicator, did the light goes off?

  • Anonymous Jun 06, 2011

Yes, the light returned to its normal function. Are you sure you depressed ALL THREE BUTTONS AT THE SAME TIME holding then down until it beeped (5 seconds)?

Freezer door slightly ajar

This happens alot, it can be helped by coveringthe door gasket of the freezer side with vaseline, this will increase the hold of the freezer door. You want to apply it to the flat side of the gasket where it makes contact with the case

Kenmore fridge and freezer not cooling

Check to see if there is any ice built up on the back wall of the freezer. If so thaw the ice and take the back wall out of the freezer. next check to see if the fan is running in the freezer (evaporator fan) This fan is what circulates the air from the freezer to the fridge. If it does run then you have a defrost problem (if ice is on the coils and back wall). Then replace defrost timer, heater, and thermostat.
