Will only Sew in reverse.

My Wife just inherited her Grandmothers Kenmore 100 stitch, and it did not come with a manual? The problem is that it will only sew in reverse? What should she be checking to correct the problem?

Could be several things -- motor hooked up backwards, reverse is stuck, etc. Is there a Reverse on the machine? If so, what happens when you activate the reverse. If it then sews forward I would say someone hooked the motor backwards. If there is no change, it would be a problem with the feeding motor or the circuit board. Suggest taking to a reputable service center for analysis. Good luck.

There is a permanent reverse position on the dial button behind the reverse where the stitch length is located. Check to see if you have positioned the knob to permanent reverse. The setting looks like a "U" turn arrow.

Hopefully this is only a mechanical problem that can be fixed with oil. If not it is either a stepper motor or circuit board. If you are not comfortable with removing covers and oiling then it needs to go to the shop.

Machine sews only in reverse
Be sure you are in the correct stitch pattern...if you are on a buttonhole stitch or a stretch stitch it normal for the machine to sew backwards. Be sure your length is to the right of 0 and not in a strtch stitch model or buttonhole mode.
