I can see through the shading. This problem just came up a couple of weeks ago. I have tried adjusting the B screw on the light tunnel, very little movement there and it did not seem to make a difference, i was not sure how hard i could turn the B screw, i only turned it softly as far as i could left and right. I have had my set 2 years+ so i am out of warranty. light engine from local service repair are $700.00+ and are on back order with no known ship date, and at that price it is not worth the trouble. light tunnel was $150.

The main cause of shadows on DLPs, that I have found is due to a light tunnel mirror collapse. It's a difficult job and the light engine needs to be torn apart.
You can replace the entire light engine, not a hard job and the price would be the same as if a technician had replaced just the light tunnel.
If you would choose a technician call:
1-800-SAMSUNG for a recommendation of a servicer in your area.

How dark? can you see anything throught the shading.. still might be a cap in the video out circuit but the one Im thinking of shades the right side and brightens the left.

sometimes RF or HV arching causes shading on left, mute your sound and listen for sizzle noise in the back.

"Finger Print" sized shaded area on screen

A shaded or dark spot on the screen is usually a bad pixel area and is caused by being hit or pressed to hard in that area. It could also be that the liquid crystal (LC in the LCD) in that area has become stagnant, try rubbing the area and around the area pressing firmly, just enough to see a color change in the screen area, but not too hard that the area turns black. Rubbing the area will move the liquid crystal around and sometimes refreshes a darkened area. If rubbing doesn't work, then it's a bad pixel area, and will eventually become a dead pixel area with time.

Dark shadow

Uh Oh! Your light engine is warping a little from overheating and is distorting the picture. It usually means replacing the light engine.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with Samsung and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
Hope ya fix it!

Red/pink shades in dark areas happens only 6ins down from top

Sounds like you have a cap that leaky or a ic thats getting hot,
if you want to try and fix it yourself get a can of freeze it
http://www.chemtronics.com/products/product.asp?id=78

and when the problem appears spray the can on each (ic or cap) part till the problem goes away.

Picture discoloration to left and right of screen.....

Hi! Guy,
This sounds like the G2 may not be properly adjusted, providing too much beam current.
This will some times cause feather edging, or lighter than normal raster on some scenes. This set should be serviced by a qualified service tech.

Side shadows on picture

it sounds as if there are speakers to close to the tv or the built in speakers are not magnetically sheilded properly (maufacturer defect) if u have or have ever had speakers on the left and right side of your tv then the magnets in them will discolor and distort the screen. sometimes even long after the speakers have been moved away from the tv it will still look that way. you may try going to the library( or online )and looking in tv repair books on how to build a homade degauser unless your tv has that feature built into it in the menu somewhere like some computer monitors do. I had placed the front speaker of a 5.1 surround sound system on top my tv and it cuased that same problem, but i found out that by placing a small round magnet with a hole in the center on top of the tv (after removing the speaker for good) right where the discoloration was.. had to flip it one side or the other to get proper effect...it immediatly took away most of the discoloration and over time it disappeared. I hope this helps. Please email me at [email protected] as to your conclusion in case it will help others. thanks, Adam

I have have this TV for almost 3 yrs..now have a shaded area on the left side

The dark side of the screen causes of the lamp alignment or prism glass alignment. This is critical you have to consult your LG technician to do this. But if you have any background o repair consult the service manual. Please careful not to touch the prism quarts so that you maintained the clarity of picture and brightness on the screen.
