Turning off every 2 minutes!!!

I'm afraid that there is a hardware failure on your TV. This type of failure is quite difficult to find because it could be in the horizontal area of the TV or the power supply.

No color only black and white picture and high pitch noise

high pitch noise is most likely the color wheel; pt# for L3 chassis:BP96-00674A pt# for L6 chassis: BP96-01103A This could also be part of your lack of color, otherwise may also need MAIN or VIDEO PCB

Samsung HL-R4266W 42 in won't turn on

Hi,

Initially, have you tried a full hard reset? If not, pls unplug from the mains. Most current devices would reset and revert back to factory default settings (assuming no internal hardware fault) when unplugged for a considerable period of time (from a few minutes to a couple of hours).

Additionally, have you tried powering the unit using another outlet?

Pls post back for any development(s) or even the lack of it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

HLR4266W

how dark? can you see anything throught the shading.. still might be a cap in the video out circuit but the one Im thinking of shades the right side and brightens the left.

sometimes RF or HV arching causes shading on left, mute your sound and listen for sizzle noise in the back.

My HD cable box, Scientific

Hi!
No, your TV is actually 720p.
http://reviews.cnet.com/projection-tvs/samsung-hl-r4266w/4507-6484_7-31335747.html
I confirmed this at Amazon as well.
I don't think the problem is with your TV. The HDMI input should automatically reset themselves based on the supported signal coming into the port. That's the beauty of HDMI. It sounds like the problem is that when you selected 1080p on the DVR, it stuck and now since you don't have display on your screen, you can't put it back. My experience with this unit (and I've had it for 5 years) has been when you unplug it, it goes back to transmitting ALL resolutions and if that doesn't work, call tech support at the cable company and have them reset the DVR remotely. This should get you back to normal (I'm really surprised that they didn't suggest this). That is assuming that yours uses Passport Echo interface. Most providers who use the SA 8300 have switched over to the Passport Echo interface but if yours hasn't (which would be odd considering that their boxes are now handling 1080p). If you don't have the new interface, you're going to have to have you provider walk you through the steps to manually reset your DVR back to the default settings. It can be done with a combination of buttons on the front of the DVR, i jsut don't know how to.
I'm very curious as to who you cable provider is because the fact is that there are no channels, major network or cable, that transmit their programming in anything above 720p/1080i due to the incredibly high bandwidth that a 1080p signal uses. Cable companies lack the infrastructure to handle that amount information. If your DVR's software has been upgraded to support 1080p resolution, it must be up-converting the 720p/1080i signal.

Loud noise when starting sometimes will shut off

If it's not a bulb that needs replacing its most commonly a problem with the ballast, which provides a steady electrical current to setup and operate the lamp.

Grag line 4" on left side of tv

This is because one of the mirrors in the light tunnel have fallen. Common problem on your model. There are several ways to fix this, I have seen some people be able to go in and glue it back in place, others have bought a new light tunnel and put it in, and some have to replace the whole light engine to get it back to normal. The difficulty with this repair is the mirror that we are talking about here are small and difficult to handel and get back in the right place. The light tunnel is located next to the color wheel. There is the lamp to the right of the color wheel and the light tunnel is to the right. If you decide to try to fix the tunnel yourself be careful it is delicate and not always easy to do. Let me know what you would like to do and I will help out however I can.
