my new camera Nikon D40x (I bought it just before 2 days) fall from tripod, then the wide black line appeared in the photos, I realized that shutter is broken.
But really I do not know what is the solution?
And if the Nikon maintenance team can fix it or not?
And how much it will cost me?!!
    Thanx in advance

I had the same problem. I sent my camera to the Nikon Service Center. They fixed it within three days. They actually replaced the whole aperture frame. FREE OF CHARGE AS LONG WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD.

Hi...i have the same problem.....
My camera haven't warranty (in Europe the warranty is 2-years)...

so....I try!!!

I pulled off all the screws on the bottom of the camera...then I removed the bottom of the camera.
After this I found a little red wheel....I moved a little with the screwdriver and then the shutter moved again.........

I'm having a problem with my Nikon d40 purchased at Christmas. I press the shutter button to take a picture and I can hear the shutter moving, but the picture either comes out entirely black or an error message comes up stating "Press shutter button down again." The same message continually comes up every time. What is the problem?

Just inherited a Nikon F100. When the shutter is

Here's the usermanual:
http://safemanuals.com/annexe_INSTRUCTION%20MANUAL_NIKON_F100-_E.htm

on page 101 (Troubleshooting) it mentions the Err message, and the shutter again to release it - According to the guide its a Refer Nikon Service Centre issue.

From how you describe it, it is consistent with there being a problem with lens compatibility. It would be worth checking compatibility (with the chart on pages 32 - 33) - Although if you inherited it "as a unit" I doubt thats the root cause..

Hope this helps

D40 "Error: press shutter release button again." Nothing happens.

If you can dare servicing youself You can open bottom cover of and turn a little red wheel manually. try pressing the release button now and will start working. If you have this problem re-accuring, then get it checked wih professional.

Nikon-d40 (shutter relese problum)

Can you explain more please ?

The Nikon D40 does not have shutter release or as known cable release, but does have a wireless remote control release.

If the shutter is not working properly....

Remove the battery and reinsert.
Remove the memory card and try again
Check the lens is correctly fitted.
Is the lens a compatible fit

Nikon d40

Take the lens off and continue pressing the shutter untill it doesn't react anymore, you should then have a normal menu without the error message.Put your lens on and you're all sorted.Cheaper and less hassle than sending it to Nikon.
