Hi, i have a nvidia 6200 gap graphics card which P&P installed quite happily and worked just fine under win2k.
Now I've just installed winxp (en route to win 7) and winxp doesn't see the card at all.
I had to go back to onboard vga to install winxp.
Trying to install the card under winxp and the card works as you get the setup and windows starting displays, but when you get to where it should be the welcome screen, its just bsod.
Trying safe mode or enable vga also end in bsod.
Disabling the onboard vga in windows before shutdown and card install forces winxp to use the default vga driver (vgasave?) but still doesnt get to the wlecome screen.
Inserting the card automatically disables the onboard vga.
I have tried clearing cmos and re-flashing bios, but no change.
P&P is set to automatic in services.
Even inserting the card while the pc is up and running (via the onboard vga makes no difference)
No P&P detection; trying to load the drivers doesnt detect it and nor does the add hardware wizard.
MB is a pcchips m810L sis730s chipset.
As i said, it all worked fine previously under win2k.
Now, the winxp im using is an oem originally for a laptop which is no longer used.
Even though i have sp3 on it, i wonder if the fact it's originally for a branded laptop means it's actually a bespoke o/s so it will not support nvidia agp.
If you run the hardware wizard for display adaptors it only shows intel and ati.
Could i be right about the oem version of winxp?
Any input gratefully received.
DId you hook up the secondaary power supply on the side a 5 pin 1/2 inch in width?

This card doesnt have one, its just powered from the agp slot.
The card is an oem nvidia, zotac in this case.
Well, i tried a different bios level which was in between the 2 i'd previously tried and lo and behold, P&P now see my agp graphics card and its now working fine under winxp.
Thinking back, i had to upgrade the bios level after i'd installed the card ok under win2k to get the MB to work at its 4X agp speed as it only ran at 2x.
Obviously something a little flakey with 030308s.rom and 010303s.rom but the both worked fine apart from this.
Closing case.
As to the rating; its the limitation of the scoring system.
Ideally there should be a "doesn't apply" category.
You got a "not helpfull" because it doesnt apply.
I think there's a language interpretation issue between British English and American English.
I'm happy for you to contact the modifiers and ask for the rating to be removed as it certainly wasnt intended to be "bad".
Like i said, your suggestion just didnt apply.
Have a good 2010.
Kind regards
