I have a vertical line that appears on my screen, it runs top to bottom and is about 1-1/4 inch wide. It usually appears when the tv is first powered on and stays on, but sometimes it shows up after 5 minutes or so and sometimes it disappears for awhile then returns. I am wondering if this is something that I can repair as we are in a rural area and have no technicians available. Is there a place where I can learn how to repair plasma problems?

A vertical line could potentially be caused by either the X_SUS board or the panel itself. If it's a problem with X_SUS board it's simple enough to swap out however a fault with the panel would probably necessitate a new tv as replacing the panel is likely to cost more than a replacement.

if the band is horizontal your tv has bad y-buffer board. Usually there are 2 buffer boards- top and bottom. if the problem is in the top half of the screen replace the top board, otherwise replace bottom board. but better to replace both a the same time.
if the tv has a vertical lines from top to bottom it may have bad plasma panel and can be considered as not economical to repair.

Hello Depending how wide the line is their could be two possible causes.
I have two questions for you.
1. How wide is the line.
2. Does it run from top of screen to bottom of screen?
If the line is thin a single strait line then it is possible the PDP has gone Bad (Panel). (Screen). The screen will to be replaced.
If the line is at least 2 or more inches wide then its a buffer board which can be replaced. LG calls this board Hand insert Boards or display driver boards..
We originally had a red stripe roughly 3" wide running vertically on the ride edge area of our Panasonic 52" Viera plasma tv. It has now been joined by a solid black stripe of the same width running from the top to the bottom. Living in Germany and purchased at local PX long enough ago that the warranty is likely expired. Now what?
The address module that is at the bottom of the PDP in that location is the suspect and the cheapest repair. There is usually 3 to 4 modules at the bottom of the PDP and each one addresses information vertically. If it were just one pixe wide then the PDP would be bad.
