Not really, you can check the spark unit by taking the cylinder assembly off as a unit and you will find a lever at the top, put a battery in tool and depress this lever, the fan should run for a few seconds and then shut off, next depress the trigger and the same should happen. Then while holding the lever (watch fingers on fan) depress the trigger and you should get spark, if not I would look for a loose spark plug wire at the spark unit, check for the wires grounding on the head assembly and broken wires there also. Also when checking at the spark unit make sure one of the 2 plugs is not partially pulled up. The simplest thing to replace is the circuit assembly, but if you have it apart it would be worthwhile to take it to a shop and see if they can change one part or the other to ensure you get the right one first. Hope this helps.

I did the above and got a spark. I put it all back together and inserted a new gas cylinder. I pressed the tip against some wood to try it out but it still did not fire. Any suggestions?

My 1987 Mazda b 2600 2bbl, there's no spark from coil.

If there is no spark coming from the coil on your 1987 Mazda B 2600 with a 2 barrel carburetor, there could be a few potential causes. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the ignition control module: The ignition control module is responsible for generating the high voltage needed to create the spark in the ignition system. If the module is faulty, it can cause a lack of spark.
  2. Check the spark plug wires: The spark plug wires carry the spark from the ignition system to the spark plugs. If the wires are damaged or not connected properly, it can cause a lack of spark.
  3. Check the spark plugs: The spark plugs are responsible for creating the spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture in the engine. If the spark plugs are worn out or damaged, they may not be able to create a spark.
  4. Check the ignition coil: The ignition coil is responsible for creating the high voltage needed to create the spark in the ignition system. If the coil is damaged or not functioning properly, it can cause a lack of spark.
If none of these steps help resolve the issue, it may be necessary to have the ignition system checked by a mechanic or repair shop. They can test the components of the ignition system and determine the cause of the lack of spark

It is possible that the black wire that is connected to the little black box on the side of your distributor could be causing the lack of spark in your ignition system if it is broken or not connected properly. The black wire likely carries a signal from the ignition control module to the ignition coil, and if it is not functioning properly, it could prevent the ignition coil from generating the high voltage needed to create a spark.
To troubleshoot this issue, you will need to repair or replace the broken wire and ensure that it is securely connected to the little black box on the side of the distributor. You should also check the connection between the little black box and the ignition control module to make sure it is secure and functioning properly. If the issue persists after repairing or replacing the wire and checking the connections, it may be necessary to have the ignition system checked by a mechanic or repair shop to determine the cause of the lack of spark.

I have a 1979 Chevy c10 truck I hooked the battery up wrong +to- the fuse box smoked for about 3sec.now the truck will not start I looked at my no.1Plug spark was pink.I run a HEI by MSD I replaced the...

Sounds as if you may have blown a fusible link. These are sections or wire hidden in line with major hot feeds to protect the rest of the harness and usually located near the battery + or near the big feed to the starter. When you say the plug is "pink", do you mean the spark seems weak? Test voltage getting to ignition switch.

My 2002 Yamaha Road Star Midnight has no spark

I have 2002 road star midnight. I lost completely spark on all 4 spark plugs. Before bike was running OK but sometimes on low RPM while idling would skip a firing on a at least one cylinder making spufff like sound. I put new spark plugs, and wiggled a little coil wires. Bike with new spark plugs would not fire up at all. Checked for spark on all 4 spark plugs - no spark., not even an electrical charge going to spark plug. Went back to coils. Each coil (there 2 of them) has 2 spark plug wires and 2 ignition timing signal wires connected to them. I realized that these ignition timing wires contacts are corroded to the point they would not conduct a charge from the distributor to coil. CLEAN ALL THE TIMING WIRES Contacts on the coils. I did that and bike fired up right away and started running much better without sputtering or skipping a cylinder firing. SO DISCONNECT ALL THE COIL WIRES AND BRUSH THE CONTACTS WITH A SMALL METAL WIRE BRUSH.

I have a 1985 honda big red and the first pull u get spark then after that u loose it but wait ten minutes and it will have it again one time only , what should i check ?

Had similar problem with a 125cc scooter I worked on. First crank of the engine showed spark on first compression and wouldn't spark anymore until you would wait 10-15 minutes. Then it would give only one spark again.

Found it to be a faulty CDI box.

You can't test or repair a CDI box, only replace it. Electrical parts that are purchased, cannot be returned so, you need to be sure it's not the pickup coil, pulse coil, secondary coil, plug wire, plug cap and spark plug itself before you purchase a box. By checking the specific resistances with a ohm meter on the previous mentioned components, will help determine if it's the box or not. Hope this helps!

Intermittent firing spark comes and goes, the pink wire was loose in the handle battery or capacitor, It seems it just pushes in... however, I have tested the fan and occasionally it was sparking but...

The plug wire just pushes into the black box. Follow the pink wire going to the spark plug. look for any damaged spots. look were the clamp on top of the head make sure it hasn't been pinched. remove from spark plug and add some dilectric grease (auto parts stores have it) reinstall and test. Good luck

Have a skilsaw 1616 chainsaw that will not crank. Cannot tell if it is firing or not. do not know how to test the lead to the spark plug from the black box (don't know what it is called) the wire is...

Remove the spark plug wire, remove the spark plug, reattach the spark plug wire to the spark plug, ground the threads or the flats the socket engages to to the engine. While grounded, pull the recoil starter and you should hear a popping and see a spark. May not see the spark if done in bright light, like direct sunlight.

Fresh rebuild now no spark

If it ran before, I would double check your electrical connections. Its more likely you didn't get a connector pushed all the way together or left off a ground wire. The ignition coil specs are generally 1 ohm or less on the primary (small Wire) side, and 5K-10K ohms on the secondary (spark plug) side. Each side should be tested to ground. Pick-up coils are typically open or really large ohm reading in Megaohms normally and around 100 ohms when the magnet on the flywheel passes by. there is no way to test the CDI box other than putting it on a know running bike or getting a known good CDI and putting it on your bike. Double check that the spark plug cap is secured to the high tension lead as well. Testing the stator is a little more complicated, but a quick way is to close the gap on an old spark plug to about 0.010" and see if there is a week spark. If so, the stator will need to be replaced.

Car wont start

Had any check engine lights come on before you made any changes?
The ignition system uses an ignition coil, crankshaft and camshaft angle sensor along with the car's computer or PCM (power control module). This system can stop working due to a failed ignition module or crankshaft angle sensor.
Testing the ignition system is an easy job that takes about five minutes and can be done using a test light or an extra spark plug. Connect a test light to ground and with one of the spark plug wires or coils disconnected. Crank the engine over while holding the tip of the test light about 1/4 inch from the wire or coil terminal. Keep your hands clear of the test area to avoid accidental shock (non lethal). You can also insert a spark plug into the coil or wire and hold it against a metal ground. You should see a light blue spark in the gap .. which tells you the system is working. If no spark is present suspect that the crankshaft sensor needs replacing which is the most common problem.
But you could also check your relay/fuse box and see if any ignition related relays are bad. One way to check a bad relay is to find another one in the box that is exactly the same ans switch them ... and see what happens.
