Connecting a Dish 622 Receiver to the HTR500 and a Sony HDTV TV

Since the HTR500 does not have an HDMI connection, I currently have the Dish 622 receiver connected directly to my TV via HDMI and then using the RCA sound output from the TV to go to the RCA inputs on the Onkyo. The problem is this config does not give me the digital sound quality. The Dish 622 supports optical output as well, but I have not been able to get sound out from it when I tried using that while the HDMI is connected to the TV at the same time. Any ideas? Is there a better way to do this? I have the Dish VIP 622 DVR, the Onkyo HT-R500 receiver, and the Sony KDS-R50XBR1 TV.

Have a Vip-722 Dish HD receiver with a Sony receiver w/0 HDMI input and use the optical for audio for the 5.1. Using the HDMI and digital optical at the same time works fine for me.

I haven't researched to actual manuals for your equipment, but I'm guessing that the optical may be disabled when the HDMI is used. You could try using the component video outputs to the TV and then the optical to the Onkyo.

Hey my nameis Mike Houston of DISH Network and I see there is a problem with the Sony hometheater system connecting with the DISH receiver. To get the full surroundsound you want there are two different options you can use, the first is to usethe HDMI and connect the RCA cable or you can use the Optical cable for sound. If you have any questions or concerns please e-mail me back; [email protected].

I just switched dish networks and now I have a green tint on my Sony KDS-60A2000. My other TV is fine so it has to be something with this unit. I tried resetting, unplugging for several hours, and system...

Since you have already reset the receiver I would recommendchecking the connections between the receiver and your TV. Please visit thislink for information on connecting your DISH Network receiver to your TV:http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/setup-receiver-totv. If afterchecking the connections you are still seeing a green tint give us a call at1-800-333-DISH (3474) for some additional troubleshooting. We hope thisresolves your issue. HDMI 1 imput keeps jumping to TV input

I assume you are connecting a Dish Network receiver (model?) to your Sony TV with an HDMI cable. I also assume this happens daily. At a certain time (default 3AM but changeable) the Dish receiver (modern models) will reboot and the "screensaver" it normally outputs will be turned off for a minute or so. Some TVs, in obeying the rules for high definition connection (HDCP) will unlink their connection. Some are fussier than others and some will not automatically recover on power up. Since the Dish receiver must reboot to maintain its stability and then refresh its guide, you should be able to do this if the TV is turned off overnight.
If you still cannot get the connection maintained, I recommend that you connect with component cables--RGB+RW cables (the red-Y, the green Y=luminance, and blue-Y signals and audio right and left.) You may have to select a different input before turning the TV off, or maybe just changing source input will recover the one you want. I have no problems with my VIP722 receiver and my Samsung DLP TV. You might be able to get some more specific advice from the www.AVSforum.com message board for you TV.

I lose my audio often for non-hd channels with dish 622 dvr

The problem could lie in youir HDMI cable, this is a common issue. if you swap HDMI cables and still have the same problem then bypass your A/v rec and connect your 622 direct to your tv and see if the problem persists, it it does, then your DVR needs to be replaced, you can call dish for addition troubleshooting if it is in fact your DVR.

I have connected my Charter HDTV settop box to the strdh700 in the 'sat in' hdmi connection, then connected the 'out' hdmi to my sony bravia tv and the signal isn't getting there. any suggestions?

If you're not getting the audio signal, please select the Audio for HDMI to TV+AMP in Menu display. If you're not getting the videos, please check if the TV is HD ready and supports 1080p signals. Also check if the connections are firm and secure and you selected the correct input on both Receiver and TV. Please try connect the Settop box to different HDMI port of the receiver and try. You can also try connecting the Set top box to tv directly and check if its working. If its working fine directly with the TV, you may try to replace the cable and try else the receiver may require service

Connect AV receiver to a Dish receiver model VIP722 DVR

Your DVD player should connect to your TV, not the DISH DVR. Is the Yamaha some sort of receiver or something similar? If so, it should plug into the TV as well. The DVR just provides a signal to your TV, just like the other two components. On the back of your TV there should be other connections to plug into like HDMI1, HDMI2, AUX1, etc. You select which input you want to view using your TV remote. For example, if you were watching a DVD, you turn on the DVD player. Say it was plugged into AV1 or something similar on the back of the TV. With your TV remote, select which input you are using...that way your TV receives the signal from your DVD player and nothing else.

How to Connect HDMI Components with AVR 3805 as Hub

In reference to the comment you added to our chat session:

Just connect your receiver to your TV using the same cable your receiver is currently using to connect to your TV, be it Composite, S-Video, or Component. Just switch your TV to that input when you need to set-up something on the receiver.
