First of all with all do respect I do not have the polaroid drm 2001G. I have as I exprest in my letter to you the polaroid dra 01601A. The problem i had was an audio problem and i simply rechecked all my connections and found that I needed and extra set for HDMI plugs on my TV.
You need to change the IR LED in the remote. I swapped in a new one from an old remote and it works great, no pointing and walking up to the unit with the remote.
The range problem with the remote can be fixed by replacing the LED in the remote with a Radio Shack 276-143. The LED is a lot stronger and now the remote works a lot better.
You may also find that the 'receiver' inside the cabinet is pointed at an angle instead of directly towards the 'window'. You can trim the rubber(?) to allow it to point correctly.
Three suggestions: 1) take it apart and clean the laser and the spindle 'hub' that the DVD rests on OR 2) get a 'cleaner' disk that will 'whisk' any dust from the laser diode. OR as a final suggestion 3) replace the DVD recorder with another. Plain old EIDE parallel interface units fit fine. This is a very friendly machine in that it will accept PC compatible hard disks and DVDR drives. tom
I bet you put it into PAL mode, the European standard. I believe that you can reset to factory default using the menu and it should be okay. If you cannot read and navigate the menu tree, then I think that if you hold the power button on after you start up, it will reset itself. I have not checked the doc to make sure of the last. You can also get display problems if you pick the Y/R/G component setting in the menu. It is designed for connecting to a high definition using 3 different cables, one for each color. It only supplies vertical on one of those cables, and the TV just doesn't know what to do without the vertical blank signal from 'somewhere'. Again, a menu setting.
You need to post edit the recording; First unprotect then do a split before the commercial than split after, then recombine the parts without the ad. Cumbersome, but it works
