maybe the software that you download is a 32 bit O.S only that's way it cos you and error. because your O.S is not compatible to the software that you use. download a 64 bit driver twain
After downloading is complete, unplug the scanner USB from computer and run the
software that you downloaded. The software installer will tell you when
to connect USB.

or www.usa.canon.com and search up your scanner model and then click on driver tap, then OS then you can download the driver and free software from there.
