I"ve tried this before ... no success. I was able to put it in free wheel mode and back in gear , then put back on chair and it started working again until someone put it in free wheel mode again. Now I get the 9 flashes again. Where are the sensors ? In the motor ? Looks a bit complex to open the motors on both sides.

Put the chair in free wheel mode and then back again and then turn the chair off then on again. Sometimes the chair will get out of gear just a littel.
The sensors are in the motors and you don't want to open the motors up. Here is the best way to find the problem. When the chair is not working, ohm test the motors and the brakes. This will tell you which of the motors is not working properly. Obviously there is a problem in one of the motors. If you can do this yourself I can explain how to do this or I can give you a number of a repair company in your area.

9 Flashes The park brakes have a bad connection. Check the left and right motor connections and wiring. Check to make sure that the power chair is not in freewheel mode.
9 flashes means the park brake has a faulty connection. Go here...scroll down to the GC3 controller and download that file It has a table that explains what the number of flashes mean. Pride Mobility Products
James,
the flash code for some of the Jazzy's say that your brake solenoid wiring has a problem, check your connections to both sides of the chair. Strege Mobility
9 flashes indicates a problem with the parking brakes. Check to make sure the brakes are engaged and the chair is not in freewheel. there may be a bad connection at the left and right motor connections and brake wiring. Check these connectors for separation and loose, corroded contacts. Reset the error code by turning the chair off and back on once you think you have corrected the problem. Hope this helps
According to Pride's troubleshooting documents the service indicator (wrench icon) will flash when a fault is detected by the dynamic controller.
The number of flashes, followed by a 2 second pause, indicates the issue. You will need to count the flashes to determine the cause and a possible solution.
This problem may depend on which main controller your chair has fitted. It should be a Penny & Giles GC controller. US versions should have a GC3 whilst here in the UK, it would be fitted with a GC2. However, the diagnostic flash codes for these two controllers should be the same. The reason im slightly confused is that you say 5 flashes mean your charger is connected at power up, when in fact it should be a Right Motor Wiring Fault. 9 flashes is indeed a Solenoid Brake Fault, or in other words, the wheelchair is in 'Free Wheel' as you have described. Therefore, IF your controller is in fact a Penny & Giles GC, 7 flashes would mean a Joystick fault. There is not much you can do to diagnose this other than checking connections between the Joystick and main controller. If these are OK, it is likely that a new Joystick controller will be required as having these fixed is usually not cost affective. Hope this is of some help to you.
Bob on each brake at the motor there is a micro switch that the controller gets connection info as to wether or not the chair is in freewheel. I have seen these switches break and therefore the controller thinks the chair is in freewheel. you could also have a bad brake solenoid that is not activating the brake when you try to move. I think the micro might be the problem because you say it flashes 9 times as soon as you turn it on. You can get just the brake assembly from Pride instead of buying the whole motor/gearbox assembly. You didn't say if you bought the chair or Medicare. If Medicare did then they will pay for most of the repair you can contact your provider or a repair service Repair Xpress @1-877-581-3733 or Roadrunner Mobility @ 1-800-467-2668 Hope this helps you
Consult your owners manual for the flash code guide. I believe that you probably have a PG Drives Joysitck/Controller, in which case a 9 code would indicate problem with the brake system. Check the free-wheel levers by placing them in the neutral position, and then firmly placing them back in drive. Try to restart. If still flashing, you need to remove the seat and the shroud and examine the connections inside the base of the chair. The brakes are at the end of the motor, and there are thin wires coming from them back to the controller box. Inspect these wires for any damage, and follow them back to make sure any connections on the way are tight, and that the connections for all clip connections are tight.
The brake is electrically operated by a solenoid. If the solenoid has gone bad, then this will also cause a fault code. Contact your dealer for servicing this part. Good Luck.
