Posting the stop error code and what you are doing when error occurs would be helpful. If you are getting blue screens and have pixelation of video, artifacting or other Video weirdness, then you may have a defective motherboard. If you have video corruption, and the system is in warranty or if the warranty has expired in the past year, contact Dell tech support for a motherboard replacement.

Thanks for the info. I would say a software driver error but seeing as you've already re-formatted I reckon it's probably a RAM error. Irql_not_less_or_equal is a bad pointer in memory. 2 things you can do to check.
1. Use microsofts memory tester which needs burning to a cd
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp#top
2. If you have 2 memory modules, take one out. If it crashes, replce with the one you've taken out. If it still crashes try the same proccess in the other memory slot. If it STILL crashes then it's most likely a motherboard fault, in which case I'd recommend you take it somewhere to get tested out.

Yeah I get those too at times... did you recently install anything on your computer, something like a USB to DB9 adaptor?
Blue screen of death usually comes after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down to prevent damage. It serves to present information to the user that was collected as the operating system issued a bug check for diagnostic purposes.
