Transmission problem One of my T5800 units will not transmit anything but the the "music note" when I push that button (the button above the "-" on the face of the unit). Otherwise, when I push the PTT, the microphone doesn't engage, nor the the indicator light go from blinking to constant red. It doesn't appear the PTT switch can be replaced easily. Suggestions?

4 Press the TIMER ? or ? button on the remote control. The code "H00" (no abnormality) will be displayed
and signal will be transmit to the main unit.
5 Each press of the button (? or ?) will increase error code
number and transmit error code signal to the main unit.
6 When the latest abnormality code on the main unit and
code transmitted from the remote control are matched,
Power LED will light up for 30 seconds and a "beep" sound
(continuously for 4 seconds) will be heard. If no codes are
matched, Power LED will light up for 0.5 seconds and no
sound will be heard.

When you have the error code you will be able to diagnose the fault.

Have you gone through this checking sequence.? it's from a Panasonic a/c manual. It could be something as simple as a clogged filter. Once you have rectified the fault, you will probably have to clear the fault code as described at bottom below, before it will condescend to work again.

14.2.4 To Clear Memorized Error Code after Repair (Protective Operation)

1. 1 Turn power on (in standby condition).
2. 2 Press the AUTO button for 5 seconds (a "beep" sound is heard) on the main unit to operate the unit at Forced Cooling Operation Mode.
3. 3 Press the CHECK button on the remote control for about 1 second with a pointed object to transmit signal to
   main unit. A "beep" sound is heard, and the Error Code is cleared

You have a poorly charged or bad battery. It takes more power to transmit than to receive. Usually the first thing you lose with a low, bad or poorly charged battery is transmit.

Try a known good battery in the radio. This should solve the problem. If not, check your battery contacts, as you may have one which is bad or not making good contact.

Clean your contacts with a pencil eraser to assure good connection with the charger.

Take the radios back to a very basic setting with all special features turned off. If the radios have a Qt filter check to see it is turned off, and set your Code to zero (off) on both units. Also, check to see your battery is good in both units. Trade the battery with a known good radio to see if the problem moves to the other radio, is a simple test.

do you guys have them on the same channel

Depending on the type of microphone used, if not the type using the speaker as a microphone, it may be damaged. I would though, suggest you remove the battery, open the case and allow the innards to dry in a warm place for several days. Even daily exposure to the sun should work fine.

Are you sure that the batteries are running well?
Try using alkaline batteries just for testing.

Hi Folks, two seperate checks to do - to check vox on autocom and transmit on motorola. With the T5622 unconnected to anything, does the push transmit button work - e.g. does it make the beep noise at the end of transmission?

Does your autocom work with any other sound sources - i.e. mp3 player so you can hear music. Does this mute when you speak ? (it should if vox is working). Note that in this setup vox is provided by autocom - NOT BY THE T5622. The instructions you mention are for the motorola vox kit.

Wire the two together and you should get the motorola beeping through your autocom at the end of transmit - that's what my kit 200 does with my T5622.

By keeping the PTT button pushed, if you get a rapid beep and the red led is blinking, sounds like a bad battery. Batt voltage is a nominal 7.5v. anything lower than 6.25v and the low battery beep starts. A rapid beep, and no red led blinking, an error in the transmit freq.

Several things can cause poor reception. I have a few questions for you.

1. Have you tried measuring your SWR (standing wave ratio)? This helps give you an idea how well your transmission line and antenna are working.
2. Is this radio being used as a base or mobile? Do you have proper grounding on the antenna?
3. Pressing the mic button and seeing the radio indicate "transmit" does not always mean you are transmitting at full rated power. Have you tried transmitting through a wattmetter into a dummy load?
4. If the transmission line is good and the antenna is good, then I would suspect that something may be wrond with the receiver's front-end (sensitivity).

Receiver sensitivity can be checked by using a RF signal generator. Unfortunately you'll have to take the unit to a repair shop to have that checked. Try the other things I mentioned above. Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.
