I changed the defrost element and freezer worked fine for a week. Now it's frosting up again and the temp is raising in the freezer. What could it be to fix it?

Could be low coolant or maybe a thermostat issue

Turn cold control to Max. This keeps your compressor running for this troubleshooting exercise. Find and manually advance the defrost timer with a screwdriver or something similar. This will shut the compressor down and bring the defrost heater on. If this happens then you will know that your timer is bad.

If it is not that, the next thing to look at is the defrost heater itself or the thermal overload on your defrost heater. This keeps your defroster from overheating.

The refrigerator & freezer operate using the same system. One system. Your still covered by the warranty and I would suggest calling the installers or store from which it was purchased. The problem may be a faulty fan switch .

SOURCE: freezer frosts up and stops cooling after approximately 2 weeks

With your new timer in hand look and find a slotted screw driver head that you can turn. That is to manually advance the timer. Now put the new one in and advance it to engage the compressor and fan. Might be in the middle of defrost mode. Your unit goes through 3 defrost modes in a 24 hour period. And each mode last for 20 minutes. Once you do this I could help further if that was the case. SOURCE: Need photo of freezer defrost sensor, switch or thermostat

Before replacing all of the components mentioned above, locate your defrost heater and check for continuity with an ohm meter, this will ensure no breaks in heater coil

Samsung RS267LBSH/XAA evaporators (both the refrigerator and freezer sides) building up with frost. It works fine for about a week after defrosting with blow dryer, and then same problem happens.

Your defrost heaters are not working. The unit takes a week to freeze up and presto - poor cooling. Melt the ice and it works fine again till it freezes up again. Did you check out the defrost timer? Make sure that the defrost elements are not open.

My refrigerator/ freezer doesn't seem to be too cool. Cleaned bottom coils and left unplugged for 24 hrs. Turned back on and it worked fine for a week. Now it is not cooling again. Any ideas why?

Hello Chris Conrad,

Worked fine for a week... is actually a pretty good sign...
MOST likely means the cooling is OK...

FROST-FREE (defrost)... should become your focus

TYPICALLY... (assuming you have that type of UNIT).

after the week... is it clogged with frost / ice (cool in the freezer area but not the refrigerator... (a week is a little less than average to become non-functional in the refrigerator (cheap little refrigerator thermometers come in really handy here... (but still cool in the freezer area where all the REAL cooling is done))).

Can you see frost/ice blocking any air slots in the FREEZER AREA??

Is water being put in the (I assume) "defrost pan" daily...?

Easy to check... put a strip of typing paper folded over the edge of the (water tray) defrost pan...

Still clean, straight & dry tomorrow = defrost circuit failure
(again.... assuming it is a "frost-free").

Yes (clean & straight) means I am wrong: paper
will look rumpled & ugly (possibly wet).

Then...

You have a HUGE AIR INTRUSION problem you need to fix first... (door alignments, gaskets, etc.) then get sophisticated about makes, model numbers... & how soon it takes to get ICE-BOUND.

You can comment me back... or get out the original
refrigerator documents... (typically) looking for:
- Defrost timer or control board
- Defrost thermostat
- Defrost HEATING ELEMENT

Freezer works fine, fridge compartment cools but has stopped cooling as good and has recently stopped cooling. did a manuel defrost on fridge and freezer worked fine afterwards, now doing the same thing...

Oncce the fridge was shut off and left for a while the cooling had come back . If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
If after about 6 hours you observe cooling it is possible that the defrost timer is faulty.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
replace the defrost timer, heater or thermostat one you have confirmed to eliminate one by one.

My 5 year old GE GSH22JSRSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator recently stopped cooling. I noticed a build up of frost on the freezer, so unplugged the fridge and let the ice melt away. After this,...

The problem you describe is that your defrost circuit has failed. The fridge should stop the compressor periodically and turn on the defrost heater to melt the frost buildup. Since the frost in building up on your coils, the fan can't blow the cold air into the fridge compartment. It defrost is controlled by a module that turns on the heater. Most of these failures have to do with the defrost heating element burning out. It can be replaced by someone who has some mechanical ability.

The coil and heater is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the panel in the back. You can obtain parts from appliance repair outlet or online like appliancepartspros.com or repairclinic.com.

Frost Buildup in Frost Free unit.

You will have to check the defrost timer to make sure it is turning if it is working properly and you are getting power to the defrost heating element below the freezer coil it should get hot if you have a 115volts or so to the element and it does not get hot then you have a bad element

Frosts up wont get cold MCBR1000S

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Kenmore Freezer Model 23041

I have an upright freezer which temp was unstable. The coils were frosted up, and the circulating fan was unable to pull air across the cooling fins.I defrosted the unit, cleaned it up, and turned it back on. Worked fine until it frosted up again. The unit was a no frost model. I had to have it serviced, and one of the defrost sensors was bad. No problems since this was fixed.
