SOURCE: Dell 1700n Laser Printer paper jams
Some questions first: -Where in the paper path is it jamming? -Is it always in the same spot or does it vary? -Roughly how many pages have you printed with this printer? -Did anything lead up to this or has it progressively gotten worse?

Hello how are you Take the tray out on the bottom and see if there is a piece of something in there. Mine does this sometimes. Also on the back there is a drawer open this up and check. Have you taken out the toner yet. Do this and once you check every area as described turn power off to it and leave off for min. Then power back on and push cancel button about 5 times let me know if this works for you. It does for me

sounds like your printer wants to form it's own three piece band(kidding here).
sounds like you rollers are dirty or have something on one or both of them..like tires on a slippery road, these need to be clean and dry.

try to open the cover and reseat the ink.
the machine is trying tell you there is something stuck inside where the switch or the senser is located. usually right before the heater path. after the paper pickup roller.

Dell does not make printers. They put their name on Lexmark printers.
I just repaired a 926 which had a paperjam alarm...and no paper jam. The paper sensor microswitch had been bent up onto a paper roller so the printer thought a piece of paper was stuck under it. It was hard to get the little lever off the roller and back, hanging free, without breaking it. This did not happen on its own so I can't fault the printer.
Look for this tiny black plastic lever hanging down right in the middle of the upper paper rollers, just behind where the carts run.
